Ontario Fire Towers
The St. Williams tower at the St. Williams Forest Centre near Lake Erie. It was used to protect the province's large forest nursery. There were four other provincial nurseries at Orono, Kemptville, Midhurst and Thessalon. This 100 footer was once a water tower that was converted to a fire tower. It was dismantled in the 1980s. There is a smaller water just to the right of it that still stands behind the trees.
Above: the old cupola from the Northumberland Forest Tower north of Cobourg now sits on the front lawn of the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum in Port Hope. Like its twin tower at the Ganaraska Forest, it was built in 1960 and in use til 1985 then removed a few years later. Below: the top 20 feet of the same tower in the museum's  back yard. To the left is the towerman's climbing ladder and to the right is the steel framework.

Two photos of the tower at Maple Mountain NW of Temagami in Rorke Twp.: At 1st I believed that this may be the "Forest Rangers" fire tower I have been searching for. Everything matches exactly except the trees in the area. This tower would have been very hard to get to especially for a tv film crew from the 1960s anyways.  Courtesy: John Salo and Hap Wilson.
