Ontario Fire Towers
Above: Here is the present Red Lake Fire Mgmt. Centre Tower at Forestry Point taken in May 1997. It is still well maintained and in use. It was remvoved from its old site on hwy 105, 15 kms south of Red Lake. courtesy of Todd Cairns at the Red Lake MNR including the next 2 photos below.
Here is a more modern tower at Prospect Lake near Ear Falls. It was built a a temporary observation to observe large scale blowdown that occurs in the Red Lake District in July 2001. It was built in Fort Frances and then erected at its present site in the spring of 1992. The tower was used in seasonal fire fighting season by trained Emergency Forest Firefighters (from 1992-1995) when the fire hazards were high and was specifacally meant to be portable so it could be erected elsewhere.
Above is the Patula Fire Tower and below is the Beaverhouse Tower both still standing in the Fort Frances District. photos courtesy of Todd Cairns and the MNR.
