| Chinese Pretzels 1 1# box cornstarch 1 1/2 cup sugar 2 cup flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 large eggs 1/2 cup evaporated milk 2 2/3 cup water canola oil in deep-frying pot Mix dry ingredients, add milk and water to beaten eggs. Blend all ingredients til smooth. Heat oil in pot. Heat iron in oil, dip into batter and place in hot oil. Work fast and you'll be perfect looking pretzels! |
| Steamed Manju Steam 15 minutes. 3 c. flour 1 c. sugar 4 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. milk 1/2 c. canola oil 3 egg whites 1 can Koshian (red bean paste), mixed with a pinch of salt Mix flour, sugar and baking powder together in a big bowl. Set aside. Mix milk, oil and egg whites together, then add to dry ingredients. Knead well. Palm some dough and flatten round. Place koshian in center of dough and seal closed. Put seam down in steamer. |
| Furikake Party Mix 1 block butter 1/2 cup canola oil 1/2 cup corn syrup 3/4 cup sugar 2 T soy sauce Mix above ingredients over low heat until sugar is completely melted. 20 cups assorted cereals (Chex, Crispix, Honeycomb) 1 cup nuts (peanuts, macadamia, cashews) 1 cup nori goma furikake Mix cereals and nuts in large roasting pan, pour suace over mixture and toss well. Sprinkle with furikake. Bake at 250-degrees or 1-hour, tossing every 15-minutes. Cool and enjoy. Store in air-tight container. i make these thoughout the year and give them out to: the hairdresser, postal worker, dentist and physicians, etc. they all appreciate this gesture. |
