TROLLS Trolls are a race of larger-than-human humanoids but not as large or powerful as ogres. The metabolism of a troll is faster than that of any other creature, mythical or not. The killing of a troll is said to be almost impossible, if they’re going to be killed by physical damage. The trolls' hasted metabolism allows them to regenerate lost body parts in a matter of days and the damage they take is often regenerated during battle. Thanks to their large size, physical strength, endurance and the gift of regeneration most trolls make excellent warriors. Also as they aren't as stupid as the giants they’re generally accepted in adventuring parties. Trolls have good natural weapons; they’re superior to humans and therefore need more experience points. They adapt well to the most complicated skills, but they’re allergic to water. Trolls can see in the dark and sometimes, they can escape from death. Trolls were originally gigantic demoniac beings in Scandinavian myth, but have since been confused with other beings. That they'll turn to stone if they leave their caves and that they eat human flesh are traits borrowed from the Gnome and Ghoul. Trolls are huge cave-dwelling and according to the myth, they turn to stone if seen in the sun. The word troll comes directly from Old Icelandic troll, meaning giant fiend or demon. The only other origin possibility is from the German word trollen, meaning to walk with short steps, but this is not widely accepted. This is one of the largest of faery kin, who originated in Scandinavia, mostly Norway (the Swedish use the name Trolds, the Danish Trolleg and Norwegians, Troll or Trollene ). As a whole, they are a vulgar race. They are bipedal (though in some cases, just barely), hairy, and typically grotesque in appearance. Most of all, they harbour hatred for all faeries and humankind as well. Luckily, this hatred has a happy byproduct in that Trolls never steal human mates or children for they find humankind to be worthless, ugly and smelly. The same factors keep them away from human dwellings. Trolls are carnivorous creatures who love mutton and goat best. (They'd very rarely deign to eat a smelly human.) Legend places them as guardians of bridges and byways, despite their often lacking judgement. Their decisions resemble most closely, those of neighbourhood bullies. And like bullies, they tend to run in packs. One of their favoured acts is to throw stones at creatures unfortunate enough to have passed them. Late versions of their myth indicate them as friendly but dull creatures who have a tremendous sense of family-clan, who love beholding the moon and contemplate the magic of nature.
