A Tribute To Miandad Saturday, 9th of march, 1996 was a sad day in the history of world cricket as well as for all the cricket lovers when Great Javed Miandad played his last innings against India and went back to the pavilion for never to come out of it again . He started his one day career on the 11th of June, 1975 against W.Indies at Edgbeston (Barmingham). He played international cricket for 21 years and showed to the world what is meant by a perfect batsman. He played equally good against the fast and the slow bowlers and in test and one-day matches. He not only played well himself but also made the other members of the team play well. The historic performance of Inzimam Ul Haq in the semi-final of 1992 world cup is an excellent example of this. The ability to make the other players of the team play well was one of his features that distinguished him from other great players. There are few finer sights on a cricket field than Javed at the wicket in full flow. His innings showed an excellent combination of defence and attack. He played many match winning innings for Pakistan. During his career he was the backbone of Pakistan batting. He was often seen laughing with the bowlers, playing some unexpected and strange shots and always advising his partner. He had a great cricketing mind. He was a jolly person and a player to watch. Selectors of Pakistan team discouraged him by keeping him out from the team for about two years at the end of his career, otherwise it would not had been difficult for him to become the highest run scorer at both test and one day level. However not being on the top of the list deos not mean that he is anything less than those who are on top. The six which he hit on the last ball of the match against India at
Sharjah on 10th of April would remain in the minds of most of the cricket
lovers for a very long time.He also used to bowl leg spin at the start of his career.
Every critic of cricket agrees that he is one of the greatest batsman in the history of
world cricket and one of the greatest cricketing minds of all times. Javed Miandad is
really a 'LEGEND'. |
