
The outcrop can only be reached at low tide. The K-T boundary clay doesn't really look so different from the other clay layers. But if you have good eyes, you'll notice that it contains more iridium (Ir) than the other clay layers. That's why the hard-core geologists were inspecting the outcrop in so much detail. The iridium was derived from that large meteorite that hit the Earth.
