Introduction:

  1. Trigger activity - do a word splash powerpoint presentation
  2. Discuss the words with the pupils briefly. Ask questions such as : Who are 'poachers'? What do they do?

    Illicit answers such as 'They are hunters who hunt

    animals illegally.'

    What are 'tusks'? - long pointed teeth of elephants or

    walrus…..(for information-male elephants are bulls,

    female elephants are cows and the young are calves)

    Word splash- poachers, protection, captured, prevention, extinct, conservation, tusks, destruction, endangered and forests.

    Pupils to derive the possible topic/s through questions and brief discussion.

    Development:

  3. Give out CD-ROMS and worksheetsto pupils.
  4. Go through instructions with pupils.
  5. Pupils to view the CD-ROM and to complete the worksheet within the given timeframe stated in the worksheet.
  6. Pupils to do:- Activity 1 (recaps headings and sub-headings)
  7. Activity 2 (increases pupils' knowledge of the

  • Recap what 'conservation' , 'endangered', 'extinct' mean.
  • Recap the usefulness of the forests - reinforce that with the

    They are to write a short report of not more than 150 words

    for the class magazine about saving our planet.

    They should include what they have learnt. They may include

    other relevant points in their reports.
