Rain forests grow in areas near the equator where the weather is hot and rain falls all year round. Millions of different species of plants and animals can be found here.

Rain forests are in danger of destruction because the trees are being cut down for wood or cleared for farming. Thousands of plants and animals are becoming extinct because there is nowhere for them to live.
Many useful products like rubber, and food like bananas and sweet potatoes come from the rain forests. Many of our medicines are made out of rain forest plants. Green plants help keep the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air.
