The project belongs to a greater questioning that we have on the design of public space, in a period when the coexistence of civilizations not only appears necessary but also can become a tool for creative cooperation, be impulse for action, activate the interest for public life.
Preferential field for the implementation of this questioning is the composition of a European community of citizens and civilizations, a new institution that inquires to specify its identity and asks for the international participation of the citizens.
The architect's concern is focused on this public space that is going to host the functions and to shape the citizen's perception for this institution.
Aim of this project is the incorporation of the building into a network of cultural centers across Europe, in order to facilitate the interchange of ideas and information, as well as the formation of a new collectivity and cooperation between citizens.
Specifically, we are interested
in designing a public space that is going to take place into the city's life.
The tools for the design of the "multicultural center" are focused
on the open-air public space of the city, on the consistency of the public
space with the urban environment and on its function as a generator of action
and cooperation.
Subject matter of our design is
not only the architectural composition, but also the program and the type
of institute that upholds it.
