The high risk of birth defects and disorders should be enough to make expectant mothers slow down, but with the need for a second income, this is almost impossible. The best way for expectant mothers to know if their stress level is going to affect their unborn child is to evaluate how they feel it is affecting them. If the mother feels stressed out, then her fetus will be feeling the stress.  Therefore, expectant mothers need to realize when they are stressed and find ways to relax.

Natasha goes into premature labor, however her daughter is strong and healthy. Natashas attempts to minimize her stress have helped her to have a healthy baby, although she was premature.

Unfortunately, Brenda was unable to control her stress; her newborn son is showing signs of autism.

Although, the same thing that might cause stress in one person might leave the next person unaffected, it is imperative that the mother acknowledges her stress factors and tries to minimize them, whenever possible.
