Along with day-to-day stressors, expectant mothers have the added stress of their pregnancy and changes caused by the addition of a member to her family. There are many ways a woman can deal with stress, to prevent harm to her unborn child. Douglas suggest these five ways:

1. Hit the gym. [�] You�ll want to ensure that your workout is pregnancy friendly. [The safest are] walking, stationary cycling, aqua fit, stair machines, and low impact aerobics.

2. Line up a pregnancy �mentor.� Much of the stress of pregnancy comes from being unsure about what is normal [�]. Having someone to turn to for [�] advice can help alleviate a lot of your anxiety.

3. Learn how to meditate. Studies have shown the meditation can help reduce stress.

4. Practice your relaxation breathing. [�] (a.k.a. �labour breathing�)

5. Go for a massage. It sooths and relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphins into your body (2002, pgs. 1-2).
