I was due for my doctors appt. November 21. I arrived at the doctors office and had my check up. The doctor did the exam and I was still just "ripe". Nothing else was happening so he said it was time for this baby to come out. He said he was going to make an appt for me to get induced the next day while I got dressed. So he made the appt for 7:30 the next morning. So while we were up there we decided that we do alittle bit of shopping and go home. I was talking it over with Jamie whether or not we should stay close to the hospital because of where the appt was so early and I would have to wake up at 3:30 and be ready to leave by 5:00. But in the end we decided to go back home.
About an hour after we got home I was laying down talking to Jamie and I felt a contraction then another then another. These contractions were 2 to 5 minutes apart. I thought I was having false labour pains so I got my mother to run me a bath for comfort because I was feeling them in my back. I was in the tub for no longer than 5 minutes and I had to get out. When I got back to my room Jamie told me to get dressed and that they were taking me to the hospital.
We left here around 3:00pm and arrived at the hospital at 4:00pm. When I got there they got me to put on a gown. The nurse checked me and I was 3cm dilated and 100% effaced. Believe me I was so relieved to hear her say that I had dilated it wasn't funny. lol She hooked me up to the doppler. (I think that's what it's called) I asked for pain med. but all she could give me was morphine.(sp) I wanted an epidural but I wasn't dilated enough to have one. About an hour or so later she came back in to check me because the contractions were getting worse but I was handling them pretty well even though the morphine wasn't working at all and I was 6cm dilated. She wanted me to walk to the delivery room which was only down the hall to see if my water would break, but it didn't. I was in the room no longer than an hour and a half and I told the nurse that I had an urge to push and she said "no it's not time." and i told her I have to push and so checked me and said "Gosh girl you're going to fast! You only have alittle bit of cervix left." The doctor finally arrived and told me that the baby was facing up instead of down and he wanted me to push to try to get him to turn. Before he left he broke my water and I started to push.
There is nothing like pushing that definaly took the pain out of the contractions. So after an hour of pushing the doctor came back in and told me that the pushing worked only thing the baby isn't making it any farther down. So he explained to me about suction and away we went. It took 3 contractions to get him to come out and now here he is. My precious little man...my sweet cheeks. The labour all together was almost 6 hours, fast for your first baby. We named him Dominic Douglas Doyle. Dominic was born on November 21, 2001 at 7:55pm at St Martha's Hospital, weighing 8 pounds 4oz and 52cm long.
