East Court 8 West Hoathly 1

East Court put eight past West Hoathly on Saturday to move into second place in division 3 of the Mid Sussex Football League. The result leaves them one point behind league leaders Horley Athletico who have played a game more.

East Court made a promising start to the match without finding their normal passing game. A couple of half-chances came and went before Ross Kelly forced the keeper to make his first real save with a close range effort from a left wing cross. Eventually the breakthrough came, Mark Champion delivered a low free-kick into the box and Carl Zimmatore was on hand to steer the ball home. Straight from the kick-off West Hoathly gave the ball away to Billy Denyer who ran at the home team's defence. He slid the ball to his right for Kelly to run on to and double the lead. By half-time it was 3-0 as Ben Sunderland made the most of a defensive error to fire home.

As the second half began East Court finally started to get the ball down and move it around and they were rewarded with two early goals. Denyer had a shot saved by the Hoathly keeper and Kelly slid in to slam the rebound home for his second of the match. Soon after Denyer made it 5-0 after being freed by Zimmatore. Stuart Moseley came on for Ben Sunderland to make his East Court debut against his old team and he was soon in the thick of the action as he struck twice to make it 7-0. He could have had a hattrick but as a cross came in from the left hand side he snatched at his volley and sent it well wide of the goal.

East Court had eased off by this stage and the game began to become stretched. At one end substitute Paul Brice had a chance to score but his header from Moseley's cross flew over the bar. At the other end West Hoathly finally started to trouble the backline of Andy Wright, Dan Medcalf, Nizam?s man of the match Champion and Nick Palmer. They got on the scoresheet after Moseley blocked a shot but it rebounded to a West Hoathly striker who fired past the wrong-footed keeper Dan Lamprell. There was still time for Denyer to round off the scoring. Wright was played in behind the West Hoathly defence and he was caught as he went round the keeper. With the keeper on the floor and Wright stumbling Denyer latched onto the loose ball and ran it home.
