East Court 12 Nutley II 1

For the second week running East Court hit double figures as they started March with a bang. Chris Butler, Daniel Lamprell and Richard Hayes were all unavailable from the side that beat Lewes Bridgeview II which meant recalls for James Salter and Paul Brice. Paul Bishop replaced Lamprell in goal and Salter came into the centre of midfield.

There were no fireworks at the start of the game as East Court settled into their stride but once Adam Shillibeer had headed home a Ben Sunderland cross to open the scoring the floodgates were opened. By half-time it was 6-0, Shillibeer added a second when he swept home another Sunderland corner from the edge of the area. Sunderland was getting a lot of joy down the right hand side and it was no surprise when he set up Denyer for the third. Denyer added a fourth to reach 100 league goals for East Court before completing a first half hattrick. Ross Kelly was the other name on the scoresheet. Throughout the first half the back four of Daniel Medcalf, Andy Wright, Shillibeer and Simon Nickols were relatively untroubled as East Court dominated the game.

At half-time Brice replaced Carl Buckler. The second half was mostly played in the Nutley half although Bishop was called into action to make a smart save and Nutley were unlucky not to score after a deflected shot spun along the East Court goal line. At the other end Salter scored a brilliant lob after a throw-in on the right hand side to make it seven. Substitute Brice made it eight before Sunderland got his name on the scoresheet. Kelly grabbed his second after picking up the ball, nutmegging his marker and powering the ball past the helpless keeper. Denyer added two more goals to take his tally to five including a bicycle kick from the penalty spot. The only disappointment was Nutley's consolation goal, a free kick was powerfully headed home past a helpless Bishop although there seemed to be a push on Shillibeer as he challenged for the ball.

East Court could have scored even more, Nickols almost got on the scoresheet with an audacious scissors kick from Medcalf's right wing cross and Kelly had chances to complete his hattrick. The referee also missed a blatant push on Denyer in the penalty area as the home side threatened again. Despite the scoreline East Court will have to play much better if they are to progress against AFC Ringmer in the Somerville Cup semi-final next weekend.
