East Court 6 Barcombe II 1

TWO goals from in-form Nick Clarkson-Tooze helped East Court to victory over Barcombe II at Imberhorne School on Saturday (January 15).

After being annihilated 18-0 by the same opponents just over a month ago, Barcombe came with a game plan to frustrate East Court and for the first quarter of an hour they were the better side and nearly took the lead from a corner which just went wide.

At the other end Clarkson-Tooze saw his audacious flick on the edge of the box cannon off the crossbar but the striker was not to be denied for long when Billy Denyer found Andrew Wright, who threaded the ball into the path of Clarkson-Tooze to score.

Captain Simon Nickols added a second with a diving header after a superb cross from Denyer, while man-of-the-match Carl Bucker taunted the Barcombe defence with his runs.

In the second half the home side extended their lead when Paul Brice's pin-point corner found Clarkson-Tooze to head home his second of the game.

Clarkson-Tooze was then replaced by Ben Sunderland and Nickols came off for Lee Champion while defender James Crittell, who didn't put a foot wrong, made way for Ross Kelly.

Kelly was soon on the score-sheet. His initial half-volley was well saved by the Barcombe keeper but the East court player reacted quickest to head the ball home.

Number five followed after the ball cannoned around in the Barcombe penalty area to Brice, who prodded home from a few yards.

Barcombe worked hard and grabbed a consolation before Champion scored the goal of the day when he let fly from 30 yards, unleashing a pile-driver into the roof of the net.
