| Saturday 04 September 2004 Turners Hill II 0 East Court FC 6 East Court FC got their 2004/05 Mid Sussex League Division 5 campaign under way with a convincing 6-0 win against Turners Hill II on Saturday. East Court took the lead early on when a neat interchange in midfield resulted in captain Simon Nickols threading the ball through to Carl Buckler who poked the ball past the onrushing Turners Hill goalkeeper. Buckler then went close with an angled shot which cannoned back off the crossbar before Billy Denyer rounded the keeper from a Paul Brice pass to double the lead. After the interval East Court pressed home their advantage and the third goal came when Denyer volleyed home a rebound following a Nickols cross. Ross Kelly missed a penalty after Denyer had been felled in the area but made amends soon afterwards with a neat finish after a well-worked move. Nickols then played Denyer in to crash home his hat-trick and Brice rounded off the scoring with a low drive which went through the keeper. Andrew Wright and Buckler worked tirelessly down the wings and substitutes Ben Sunderland and James Salter maintained East Court?s attacking threat when they came on in the second half. Paul Bishop swapped his pre-season goalscoring exploits for a place between the sticks and was untroubled for most of the game, whilst the defensive unit of Daniel Medcalf, Nick Palmer, Adam Shillibeer and Martyn Bishop didn't put a foot wrong. It was an excellent display from East Court and they hope to build on this performance in their second league match of the season, against Fairwarp (away) this Saturday, kick off 2pm. Team: P Bishop, A Wright, C.Buckler, A.Shillibeer, D Medcalf (M Bishop), N Palmer, S.Nickols, B.Denyer, R.Kelly (B.Sunderland), P.Brice, T.Greig (J.Salter) |
