Wisdom Sports III 2 East Court 3

EAST Court kept up their challenge for promotion from Mid Sussex Football League Division 6 with an important win on Saturday (March 13).

The away side started well with Billy Denyer and Lee Champion having chances but there were unable to seriously test the Wisdom Sports keeper.

East Court went behind when a long ball caused confusion in the away team's defence and a Wisdom player beat keeper Andrew Mackie to it and, despite the attempts of Martyn Bishop, the ball ended up in the net.

The away side continued to create chances and captain Simon Nickols dragged a shot wide. But they deservedly equalised with an excellent goal. A well worked move in the midfield involving James Salter and Andrew Wright saw the ball eventually find Denyer in the penalty area, who flicked it into the path of Champion and he smashed his shot past the keeper.

East Court took the lead when a cross evaded Ben Sunderland but found Carl Buckler, who scored on his 50th appearance for the club.

In the second half Nick Palmer was replaced by James Crittell and East Court had chances to extend their lead with Champion and Sunderland denied by the Wisdom keeper.

Nick Clarkson-Tooze came on for Champion and Denyer deservedly got on the scoresheet when he burst clear and fired his shot past the keeper. However, Wisdom ensured a nervy last five minutes when Bishop was penalised for a foul in the penalty area and the home team's player sent Mackie the wrong way with the spot-kick. But East Court held on for the points and kept up the pressure on Turners Hill II in the race for promotion.
