East Court 11 East Grinstead Utd IV 2

SIX goals from Billy Denyer helped East Court secure an emphatic victory in this Mid Sussex Football League Division 6 local derby on Saturday (January 10).

It took the home side just 40 seconds to get off the mark when a cross from the right saw Ross Kelly nip in front of a defender to poke home. Denyer got his first when a long ball from captain Simon Nickols bounced over the United keeper allowing Denyer to tap into an empty net. Sunderland added a third after just eight minutes and Denyer scored again when the ball broke to the East Court midfielder and he knocked it in via the far post. Denyer grabbed his hattrick after a run from the left wing saw him beat a United defender before tucking the ball past the advancing keeper. East Court's sixth also came from Denyer, who ran on to a slotted pass and beat the keeper with an angled drive into the far corner. A 60 yard run from player-manager Daniel Medcalf set up East Court's seventh just before the break as the defender squared the ball to Denyer, whose shot flew into the roof of the net.

Substitute Lee Champion, who came on for Sunderland, added number eight, before Denyer secured his double-hat-trick when Champion's shot was saved and Denyer tucked home the rebound. Martyn Bishop then went close with a 30 yard shot which hit the outside of the post before United pulled a goal back when an attempted cross surprised East Court keeper Paul Bishop, who could only help the ball into the net.

Chris Butler replaced Martyn Bishop, while Duncan Bewley came on for Carl Buckler. Bewley was brought down in the area but keeper Paul Bishop saw his spot-kick saved and the rebound blocked by his opposite number.

Nickols added the tenth after a great team move with the ball passed around the defence and midfield before Denyer was released and he knocked it to Nickols who beat the keeper. Kelly grabbed his second after Denyer found the East Court striker and he dribbled round a defender before beating the keeper from six yards. United grabbed a second on the final whistle when a goalmouth scramble saw a United player poke home via the outstretched leg of Denyer.
