Keymer and Hassocks 2 East Court 0

EAST Court saw their promotion hopes dented after going down to a well-organised Keymer and Hassocks side on Saturday (December 13).

The away team started well but were reduced to long shots from James Salter and Martyn Bishop which failed to test the Hassocks keeper.

East Court should have gone ahead when Lee Champion was played through but on a wet pitch he slipped at the vital moment and the Hassocks keeper was able to collect the ball.

At the other end Hassocks created their first chance from a cross which James Crittell defended brilliantly.

East Court keeper Paul Bishop denied Hassocks with an outstretched leg and Chris Butler threw himself in front of the rebound. Then a home team player met a cross with a volley which deflected off Butler and Paul Bishop somehow brilliantly managed to turn it onto the crossbar.

However, Keymer took the lead just before the break when Butler was adjudged to have fouled and the resulting free kick deflected off Andrew Wright to a Hassocks player who headed home.

The second half saw East Court try to push forward with man-of-the-match Daniel Medcalf rallying the side.

Champion was replaced by Ben Sunderland while Mark Nolan came on for the injured Martyn Bishop.

East Court were caught on the break mid-way through the half and a Hassocks player finished with a chip over the on-rushing Paul Bishop.

Everything East Court threw at Hassocks was cleared by a brilliantly organised defensive line and try as they might the away side could not find a way through.
