| Saturday 22 November 2003 Lewes Bridgeview II 2 East Court 3 EAST Court returned to winning ways on Saturday (November 22) with a spirited performance that saw them see off opponents two divisions higher in the Mid Sussex Junior Charity Cup. The away side started brightly and created chances. Carl Buckler headed over from a Ben Sunderland corner, Martyn Bishop latched on to a poor clearance from the Bridgeview keeper but shot just over and Lee Champion was denied by a good save. At the other end Paul Bishop saved after a scramble at a corner while Andrew Mackie, Dan Medcalf, Chris Butler and Nick Dawson made a number of important clearances. Bridgeview took the lead just before the break when a player found spaced and fired home. At the start of the second half he home side was given a chance to extend their lead when East court captain Mark Nolan was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area but the Bridgeview forward hit the spot-kick wide. East Court equalised when Medcalf burst forward and was fouled. The referee played advantage and the ball broke to Martyn Bishop who found himself with just the keeper to beat. The Bridgeview shot-stopper managed to get something on the ball but Martyn Bishop was able to knock the ball to Lee Champion, who fired home. Almost immediately Bridgeview were back in the lead when Mackie's attempted clearance ended in his own net. East Court levelled again after a well-worked move. Paul Bishop threw the ball to Buckler who played a one-two with Martyn Bishop before crossing for Champion to smash an unstoppable shot past the Bridgeview keeper. The away side went ahead after the Bridgeview keeper picked up a backpass and the resulting free kick was knocked back by Nolan to Mackie, who slotted the ball in the bottom corner. Champion saw a header saved while Sunderland almost scored after beating three Bridgeview players and the keeper but hit the side setting from an acute angle. In the last 10 minutes Paul Bishop denied Bridgeview an equaliser while in the dying moments Mackie did brilliantly to put off an attacker when he seemed destined to score.
