| Saturday 06 September 2003 East Court FC 6 Ansty Sports and Social 1 LIFE in Division 6 of the Mid Sussex League got off to a great start for East Court FC who beat Ansty Sports and Social 6-1 at Imberhorne on Saturday (September 6). After an intensive pre-season it took the home side just over a minute to take the lead when Martyn Bishop crossed from the right and Carl Buckler's first time shot found the back of the net. Within a few minutes it was 2-0 when the ball was played around in midfield before being slid through to into the path of Ross Kelly who steered the ball into the corner. East Court took their foot off the gas and Ansty pulled a goal back from a corner. But the home side restored their two goal advantage almost immediately whern the ball broke lose in the Ansty penalty area and Billy Denyer picked it up before firing past the goalkeeper and a defender on the line. Denyer almost added his second but his curling shot was well kept out by the Ansty keeper. In the second half East Court continued to create chances and a cross-field ball from Denyer found Buckler who scored his second goal with a fine half-volley inside the box. Captain Simon Nickols went close when his rasping drive from 25 yards flew just wide of the post while Kelly saw his effort saved by the Ansty keeper. East Court added a fifth when Martyn Bishop's corner caused confusion in the penalty area and the ball broke to Nickols, who lobbed the ball left footed into the roof of the net. At the other end East Court keeper Paul Bishop was called into action when he saved from an Ansty forward with Nickols tidying up the loose ball. Tom Greig, player manager Daniel Medcalf and Nickols were solid at the heart of the defence while Andy Wright's pace on the right caused the Ansty defence all sorts of problems. Nick Palmer and Martyn Bishop won the majority of balls in midfield and Ben Sunderland workerd tirelessly up front. Chris Whiting, who came on and made his competitve debut, set up East Court sixth when he flicked the ball to Kelly, who dribbled into the area and beat the keeper from close range.
