| Saturday 05 October 2002 East Court FC 3 East Grinstead United III 4 IN A seven goal thriller, East Court FC were beaten by East Grinstead United III in the Mid Sussex Junior Charity Cup on Saturday (October 5). East Court started extremely well and found themselves two goals up. First Ross Kelly was given time and space by the United defence and he smashed his shot past the keeper. Then Billy Denyer beat a number of United players before finding the net with a clinical finish. It could have got better for East Court but Denyer's chip came back off the crossbar. United pulled a goal back from a corner and then had an effort ruled out after the ball was adjudged to have gone out of play from a cross. In the second half United equalised but East Court retook the lead when Salter chipped the keeper as he came rushing out the area. At the heart of the East Court defence Daniel Medcalf put in a number of important tackles but he was powerless to stop United equalising again. From the restart United took the lead and despite putting on the pressure East Court could not find a way through. But the home team can be justly proud that they managed to match their opponents, who are five divisions above them in the Mid Sussex Football League, throughout the game.
