Computer Games

Rise of Nations
From Brian Reynolds, designer of Civilization 2 and Alpha Centauri, comes Rise of Nations, combining the fast-paced action of real-time strategy games with the strategic depth and epic scope of turn-based strategy games. Rise of Nations allows players to improve their city infrastructure, create new cities, and expand national borders.

You can play one of 18 civilizations, spanning 5000 years of human history. It is due to hit stores Spring 2003.

Empire Earth
Rick Goodman, the creator/lead designer of Microsoft's award-winning and best-selling Age of Empires game, conceived Empire Earth as a game that will appeal to all the fans of Age of Empires and other RTS games.

This game offers superior campaigns, and a approach to civilization modelling that boils it down to player choice rather then preset stereotypal civilizations, you can play a civilization from the dawn of mankind into a scifi future with giant robots..

Age of Kings
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is the sequel to the award-winning, best-selling real-time strategy game Age of Empires. Age of Empires II spans a thousand years, from the fall of Rome through the Middle Ages in which players control the destiny of humankind. The game keeps the epic scope of Age of Empires' game play while evolving the combat and economic features.

You can play one of 13 civilizations from the dark age to the imperial age, and with the expansion pack, you can play with 5 additional civilizations.

NeverWinter Nights
The Ultimate in PC Roleplaying Games. It is in 3D and comes with a campaign which you could go through solo, or with friends online. The game also contains a tool to build campaigns of your own which you can share with others, in fact the built-in campaign is created by this tool, so you too can create professional quality campaign modules.
Age of Mythology
Another great RTS title from Ensemble Studios, this time you can play any of three cultures, Greek, Egyptian or Norse. However this RTS title is based on mythology and you can choose among 15 different gods from each of the three cultures (3 major to start and 12 minor, as you progress in the game) to define your civilization.
HalfLife
This is a popular 1st person shooter Half-life. Half-Life combines great storytelling in the tradition of Stephen King with intense action and advanced technology to create a frighteningly realistic world where players need to think smart to survive. My personal favourite mods are Tour of Duty which is a Vietnam mod, and Day of Defeat a WW2 mod.
Battlefield 1942
This is a 3D 1st person shooter/simulator featuring WW2 action. You can play on a variety of realistic maps, and as a variety of classes: scouts, assault troop, bazooka troop, medic or engineer. From America, Germany, Britain, Japan or Russia. But that is not all, you can also drive tanks, planes, battleships, jeeps or whatever kind of vehicle in the game for a complete combat experience.

Gaming Clan Sites

Army of the Republic
This is a gaming clan that I belong to. They started out as a Age of Empires clan in 1998 but moved on to Age of Kings, and then Age of Mythology. I joined AoR after becoming an Angel at Heavens Games as a writer for their Rise of Nations site.

Board Games

Settlers of Catan
Players are recent immigrants to the newly populated island of Catan. Expand your colony through the building of settlements, roads, and villages by harvesting commodities from the land around you.

The basic game can support 2-4 players, up to 6 with an expansion pack, there are also "Seafarers" Expansion, and a "Cities and Knights" Expansion packs that adds additional gameplay elements.

Squad Leader
This is the ultimate in squad level WW2 strategic wargaming. This boardgame spawned the Close Combat Series of computer games. It in itself provides extreme detail and well developed gameplay to create any historical battle scenario imaginable in the WW2 genre. There is a number of expansion packs that round out the game to include all WW2 combatants. The basic game include German, Russian and American forces.
