| Day 1: OCD Despite the fact that I am living off campus, there is in fact both a faculty orientation for me and a residence one. The residence one is called Off-Campus Dons. Our dons keep us informed and the OCD puts on events for off-campusers so that we arent completely isolated since we dont have the same close residence connection. So on day one, Monday, it was Residence Orientation Day or for me OCD Orientation Day. The registration started at noon so I got there around I dont know ten to or something, and I am walking trying to find Fed Hall where I am supposed to register. And I totally got lost in the residences which sucked because they are like a maze and there was all these kids with all their crap yeah, it was bad, so much walking. Finally I got back on the right track and made it to Fed Hall where I met Matt and Kelly in line to register. I hung around with Kelly for the people bingo to follow and a couple other filler games. After the filler games we met our Dons. Mine is Roselle. She is such a cutie. We broke into our don groups and played get to know you games. And we were introduced to the idea that we need to make a skit about certain serious issues. Ours was drinking responsibly. Oh I forgot to mention that the theme for the OCD was Sesame Street so each team name was a character there was Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar and mine was Bert & Ernie. We each had cheers and T-shirts with our team name. We competed against the other teams for points, with events such as duct-taping a don to the wall, (we won 2nd and 1st for that one) crossing molten lava on rocks that the leaders steal if you arent stepping on them, and getting the whole team across, (I dont know how we did for that one, there was some confusion), yeah and I dont remember what else we did. It was funny anyway. After that we had a barbeque of sorts. We were all STARVING. They served us you know the cheap crappy burgers and chips and a pop and an apple. After supper I walked to my car (15 minute walk away) to get my sweater and drop off the pillow case full of stuff that they gave us. Then walked back. We had to do a three minute presentation type thing just being like yay our team! So for ours we started out with a couple of gymnasts doing walk-overs across the stage and stuff and then we had two people, come out and the one was like, Aw, I can never catch any fish! and the other was like, I know what to do! Heeeeeeeeeeerrrre fishiefishiefishiefishie and then the rest of the team flopped up on stage like fish. And then we sang our version of the rubber duckie song, did some other cheers and ended with a guy saying, This has been brought to you by the letters W-E-R and the number 1. And there were guys spelling it out; it was funny. And then at the very end we said, FOC! because thats the leaders who are giving out the points. Feds Orientation Committee. Quite a humourous acronym. Anyhoesen. Then we walked over to this place and had a bonfire which was technically a barbeque because they arent allowed to have a bonfire. I met a girl from Manitoba named Sheri and a guy named Bill and chatted with them for a while and then more people joined our circle including Justin, Matt, Joe, Dan, Christine, Courtney, Steve, another Justin, and a couple other people. One of the leaders- Chris taught us how to play bonsai and we were betting that hed forget our names and faculties because he did at first, but he didnt. I think that I left at about 11, I was so tired though. |
