Welcome to another year of exciting Scorpion Cross Country.  The coaches are very pleased with the work ethic the team is showing.  We are a small group this year but we are working very hard.  For those alumni who frequently check the site we hope you can come out and support the team at some competitions.  The alumni have been very supportive of the program over the years and the coaches and athletes love when they come back and show their OM pride.

If anyone has trouble reading any of my Excel files please let me know and I can also post the file as a text file.

2004 Cross Country Schedule        Schedule in .txt format       OM Runners Personal Records

What a great start to the season.  Time trials were held on Saturday, September 4 and the team performed very well.  We had many personal records set and the team seemed to push each other towards excellence.  The hard work we have put in over the last 3 weeks has really paid off.  Congrats to the team and we, the coaches, are very excited about this season.  Continue your hard work and reap the benefits.  The weather was beautiful, maybe a little on the humid side, and the goodies after the run were awesome.

Time Trials

The team has gotten off to a great start this year.  The season opened at the Howard County Invitational and we placed 12th on the girl’s side with Sarah Lebro and Grace Concannon leading the way.  The boys finished 8th and were led by Miilhan Stephens, John Thornton and Mahmoud Abouelrous.  In the ‘B’ race Eric Nathan led the way for the Scorps and earned himself a varsity spot.  He led the team to a 6th place finish.  Senior John Stanley ran a very impressive race for the ‘C’ squad, leading his team to a 6th place finish.  He managed a 9th place finish in the race and earned himself a top 10 shirt.

The team then went to the Bull Run Invitational and ran very well.  We ran in the small school division and lucked out with the weather.  The conditions had dried up by the time we raced.  The boys finished 4th out of 26 teams and were beaten by two 2A schools and one private school.  Newcomer, Jonah Meyers is really stepping up for the team and closing the gap on our top runners.  He is being pushed by Jeremiah Tsang.  Jimmy Snyder led the JV boys and ended up earning himself a varsity spot.  The girl’s team finished 10th out of 17 teams.  Joy Jennifer, Samantha Sammis and newcomer, Amy Zontek, packed it in for the team.  Keep working hard and pushing each other.

The team shined on the home meet that was held on the 22nd against Hammond , Howard and River Hill.  John Thornton (PR) led the team, finishing 7th and grabbing the number one t-shirt for the first time.  Way to go John.  After spraining his ankle at the Bull Run Inv., senior Peter Linton ran a PR and earned his varsity spot back.  Eric Nathan (PR), Evan Hartranft (PR), Kwon Yang (PR), and Bryon Travitz (PR) all earned top 10 shirts.  Grace Concannon (PR) also grabbed a number one shirt for the first time finishing 2nd place at the meet.  21 of the 29 runners for the Scorps ran personal records on our home course.  Incredible.  Some freshman boys really stole the spotlight in this area when compared to their time trial results:  Teddy Carney ran over a minute faster; Shane Fultz ran almost 2 ½ minutes faster; Matt Reid ran over a minute faster.  On the girls side Amanda Mezei ran 3 ½ minutes faster; Holli Hackett ran almost 2 ½ minutes faster; Caitlin Meeker ran almost 2 minutes faster.  Jonah Meyers, Richard Duarte, John O’Connor, and Amy Zontek also made improvements by over a minute. Other PR’s include: Jeremiah Tsang, Jimmy Snyder, Ian Anderson, Sarah Lebro, Great job team.  Keep up the hard work.

I want to thank the team for the cards.  I really missed watching you run yesterday (our home meet) and I miss being at practice.  I hope to be back out there Friday or Saturday.  You are all working very hard and it is nice to see the results showing on race day.  Great things are still to come!!!!  Coach Vicki

The team competed at Wilde Lake on 10/13/04 with Atholton and Hammond.  There were some outstanding performances.  Both the boys and the girls teams finished 2nd behind Wilde Lake.  Congrats to you guys.  Teddy Carney, a freshman, won the JV race.  It was a very exciting race and he outkicked a Wilde Lake runner in the last 300 yards to get the victory.  Way to go Teddy!!!!

Congrats to the team on an outstanding performance at our final home meet of the year.  The times were amazing especially since the weather was wet and rainy.  Both teams are really stepping things up and the coaches look forward to an exciting post season.  John Thornton and Sarah Lebro won the individual titles.  John accomplished his goal of beating Coach Phil's time on the course - way to go John!!!  John says that Coach Hill is next.  Both Sarah and Grace made it into the top 5 class times for juniors - congrats ladies.  The boys team beat Reservoir and the girls competed hard but fell short by one point.
