Full Results of the meets can be found on mdrunning.net I will only post the times for OM runners on this site. If any full results do not make it to mdrunning I will do my best to post them here. Example, Howard County Inv JV Results. Consolidated Times for OM Runners plus Personal Record Excel File STATES 39 of the 41 team members made it to Hereford to be apart of the finale, including two freshmen who made the trip all the way to Hereford to be with the team after half time of the football game where they were performing in the band. The boys were invited back up to the awards platform this year by placing 2nd behind Beall. Mahmoud and Josh earn medals and seniors Craig and Paul compete for the Scorpion XC team for the last time. Miilhan, John Thornton and Joseph provided another consistent performance. The girls continued their progression over the years by placing 3rd behind Williamsport and Loch Raven. The girls finished 5th two years ago and 4th last year. Tracy earned another medal and competes with Allison and Sarah Klyap for the last time as members of the Oakland Mills cross-country team. Sophomore Sarah Lebro and three freshmen, Joy, Samantha and Ellen help the seniors to the second best team place at the state meet ever. The seniors will really be missed and the coaches are appreciative of their commitment to the program and the effort they gave. Now we are wondering who will step up and lead the teams next year. REGIONALS AT OAKLAND MILLS FOR FIRST TIME EVER The team made another trip to OCB so you know that is good news. The girls finished 2nd, 7 points behind Loch Raven while the boys won for the 18th time in the last 20 years and for the 7th time in a row. Loch Raven, the defending state champs, were 2nd. The boys had their best performance of the year and really took advantage of the home course advantage. Scoring only 23 points in a seven team field is very impressive. All seven runners placed in the top 12 and earned ribbons. Beall will be the favorite at the state meet with the Scorps and Williamsport chasing. The girls had hoped to win their 3rd straight regional title but Loch Raven performed better than the Scorps. We feel these two teams are the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the 1A girls state classification and will be chasing Williamsport at the state meet. Region Results - Boys Region Results - Girls JV Times COUNTIES The Girls team were lead to a 5th place finish by Tracy Singer (8th). The boys team were lead to a 6th place finish by Josh Tippetts (6th). Both teams ran well at the meet and continue to progress as the big meets remain. SCORPION CRAWL The infamous Scorpion cross-country course was tested by seven teams at the Scorpion Crawl in 2003. Mt. Hebron dominated both races and were led by Liz McCarter in the girls race as she ran one of the fastest times ever by a female on this course. David Rogawski from Hammond won his first high school cross-country race ever on the boys side. The Scorpions placed 2nd in both the boys and girls events. Varsity Boys Results Girls Results Boys JV Results HARFORD INVITATIONAL The teams competed well at the Harford Invitational. The girls finished 8th out of 18 teams and beat their 1A competition, Loch Raven. The boys also beat their 1A competition, Loch Raven, and placed 10th out of 21 teams. Everyone really stepped up their game today and ran well. To mention each by name would be impossible since 34 of 40 kids set an all time XC PR. Very impressive since many of them ran on the Catoctin course for regionals last year in addition to running the Harford Invitational last year. The team showed a lot of competitive drive today and we are very excited about how they are improving. Other schools included Wilde Lake, sort of as they did not bring their top four or five guys, Hammond and River Hill. The weather was great and only 10 days after the poor performance at the time trial, the team ran some really great times for this very slow and tough course. The girls ran first and set the stage for the rest of the day. Focused on the light blue jerseys, the girls had their best race of the year so far but they could not overcome the one - two finish by River Hill. River Hill 31, Oakland Mills 34 while Hammond was third and Wilde Lake fourth. Allison led the girls and tied the second fastest time ever on the home course by a Scorpion while the Sarah's raced with the River Hill #3 right to the finish and Gen beat the River Hill #5. Samantha moved into the top seven for the first time. The best county boys team at the Howard County Striders Invite, River Hill, continued to dominate by placing seven in the top 11 at this meet. River Hill won while Oakland Mills was second, Hammond was third and Wilde Lake fourth. Mahmoud led the boys to a ton of PR's on the home course by placing sixth. He is still a second behind Coach Phil's best time and just over 30 seconds behind Coach Jon's best time from 1984 and 1985 respectively. With two more home meets this year it appears as though Mahmoud, Craig, Josh and William have a shot at Coach Phil. The question is will Coach Jon be caught? Evan led the B team and did a great job in the middle of all that light blue. Joy, Samantha, Ellen, Miilhan, Joseph, Evan, Bryon, Richard and , Ryan Hart all ran their fastest times for any XC course at this meet. River Hill, Hammond, Wilde Lake at Oakland Mills Oakland Mills Times MT. HEBRON QUAD MEET The first of three inter-county quad meets was held on September 24 at Mt. Hebron High School. Other schools included Glenelg and Howard. The team results were the same for the boys and the girls and the scores were nearly identical. Mt. Hebron won, Glenelg was second, Oakland Mills was third and Howard was fourth and no team was that close to catching the next. The girls expected the two powerhouse teams in the county to be very tough but we were very happy to put four finishers in the top 14 at this meet. Tracy led the way finishing 6th. Jennifer had a great race earning the #7 shirt and Ellen finished her first official XC race. The boys were able to put five finishers in the top 18 but our first finisher was 10th while four Glenelg runners and five Mt. Hebron runners were in front of our #1. Mahmoud and Craig led the team and were seperated by only three seconds. John Stanley was the 7th guy for the team for the first time as he continues to impress and Josh stepped up making the middle of that top 5 a little stronger. Ryan Gleason led the B team to a very strong finish as nearly every one of them ran their fastest time of the year. Eric made his season debut and he will have to captain the currently non-existent injured reserved squad after he finishes his workouts and races. Mt Hebron Quad Full Results OM Times at Hebron
The Bull Run Invitational, scheduled for September 20, was postponed due to the after affects of Hurricane Isabel. The schedule called for a race that day so we competed against ourselves in a time trial on the home course. That decision caused the coaches a lot of pain as the performances, by most, were poor. The week ahead would be painful for the team after that effort. HOWARD COUNTY INVITATIONAL The Scorps competed at the Howard County Striders Invitational at Centennial High School on September 12. The weather was rainy and the course was muddy. The results for the Scorps were almost as ugly as we did not have a great showing. Maybe we are not mudders - haha! It appeared as though the teams competed without any goals, especially the boys. The teams need to find an identity, set some high goals then do what is necessary to accomplish them. Hopefully this meet helped the Scorps realize they are not all on the same page and that they need to be. The season is early and we WILL be ready when it really counts. Mahmoud and Tracy both earned medals at the meet. Joy improved her time from Interstate by over 2 minutes; great accomplishment considering the conditions made for a slow day. Paul fought hard in the B race to earn a varsity spot back. William and Sarah Klyap joined the varsity teams after missing the first meet. Howard County Invitation Scorp Times Howard County Inv Full JV Results INTERSTATE CLASSIC The team opened the season at the Interstate Invitational at Clear Spring High School on September 6. There were some very good performances but the lack of summer training held others back. The Scorps, a 1A school, usually competes in the Small school division at invitationals but were placed in the large school division at this meet. Mahmoud, Tracy and Allison all placed in the top 15. A few who had a great race this week include John Thornton, in his first varsity race ran a PR for a XC race by well over 2 minutes, and John Stanley broke into the top 10 on the team for the first time. Sarah Lebro got better each season as a freshmen and as a sophomore she continues the improvement and is rewarded for her hard work this summer. The girls team should be pretty strong this year. 5 seniors, 2 in their 4th XC season and the other 3 in their 3rd, have helped the program improve each year. After winning regionals the last couple years and moving up in the standings at the state meet they are very motivated and have set some high goals this year. The seniors, Tracy, Allison, Sarah Klyap, Gen and Erica, are very excited about the size of the girls team this year. They have been instrumental in recruiting their friends/schoolmates. Now the 5 seniors have 2 returning sophomores (Sarah Lebro and Holli) to work with along with 5 freshman (Ellen Grgurich, Joy Jennifer, Samantha Sammis, Bethany Watson and Jennifer Hood). The boys team is young but there is a solid core of returning runners with potential. Senior, Craig, put in the miles this summer and is looking strong. The team is loaded with juniors but the seniors, Craig, Paul, Chris, Jon Buechler and Ryan Gleason, are hoping the team will come together this year as well as next. They need a lot of help from the underclassmen like Mahmoud, Josh, William, John Thornton, James, Peter, Jeremy and John Stanley. There will be many guys fighting to be on the varsity squad. Hopefully, the friendly competition will make for a stronger team. The boys team has some new faces this year. Some of them are already making an impact on the team. Miilhan Stephens and Kwon Yang, juniors, are looking very strong as is Mahmoud's younger brother Joseph who, as a freshmen, has a shot at a varsity spot this year. Other newcomers include senior Howard Wilmer, and freshmen Ian Anderson, David Gum, John O'Connor, Shawn Horsey, and Ryan Hart.
