Enjoy. http://community.webshots.com/user/omxc1 http://community.webshots.com/user/oaklandmillsxc The boys were looking for their 3rd straight championship and the programs 12th title. The task at hand was going to be tough as Westmar and Loch Raven beat the Scorps the last time they squared off against each other. Izzy takes charge early and becomes the Scorpions first back to back individual state champ. Ricky McGinnis finishes 7th with a huge effort while Joel Selby moves into the medal awards category at the state meet by placing 14th. Mohamed Abouelrous finishes 16th in his first year running XC while 4 year runner Dustin Allen outkicks 3 guys and finishes 18th in his first state meet. Mark Grgurich finishes 21st and is the best 6th runner in the 1A state meet. Mahmoud Abouelrous finishes 33rd and is the 3rd freshmen in this race. It was another close team score. Westmar had 51 and Loch Raven had 47 while the Scorps found a way to win again with 46. The girls finished 4th at counties and 1st at regionals and were sure to be better at states then in the recent past. Two new comers to the team, Tracy Singer (8th) and Molly McCourt (9th) earned medals in their first year running XC. Allison Densmore finished a terrific season with a 20th place finish at the state meet while 3 year runner and senior captain Sachele Edwards placed 45th while running a PR on the tough Hereford High course. Genevieve Reibel battled back from an injury to make a big difference for the girls team by placing 55th while Viktoria Elkis continues to improve in her first year running and placed 68th. The team placed 5th and was right in the middle of a very tough team race as 2nd through 7th was separated by only 12 points. The coaches will miss the team as we won't see you every day for awhile but remind you that you only get better at distance running by doing it and doing it regularly. XC is a 12 month a year sport, keep striving to be the best SCORPS! Awesome job Scorps!!! Both boys and girls place 1st!!! Izzy wins and we put 6 in the top 10 and 7 in the top 13. The girls went 2,3,4, 15, 23, 29, 30. Great job. More to come.
The boys team finished 3rd at the County Meet (placing 3 in the top 10), while the girls finished 4th (their highest place in many, many years). Way to go Scorps!! More to come
The 1st invite at Oakland Mills had 5 teams compete and featured the #1 ranked team in the state, C. Milton Wright, and 2 of the best runners in the state, Izzy Mehmedovic and Pat Bailey. C. Milton Wright swept both the girls and boys JV races as the 4A school from Harford County is talented, deep and young. Josh Tippetts led the Scorpion JV runners by breaking 20 minutes and earning the #8 shirt. Each of the following ran 2 minutes or more faster than they did at time trials: Josh, Kyle McGehee, Jon Thomas, Sean Davidson, Peter Linton, Mike Scudder, Robert Lovett, Jon Buechler, Amir Miles-Humes, Bryan Daughtry, Tyler Selby, Matt Pumplin, John Bruner and Matt DeBeal. John Stanley did not run time trials but had the best race of his season by breaking 24 minutes. The girls race had 3 OM girls finish in the top 6 while the team scored 41 points and finished 2nd. The top 3 Scorps moved into the top 8 times in the history for OM girls on the home course. Allison Densmore finished 3rd overall and tied the 2nd fastest time ever run by a Scorp, Danielle Stoddart, on the home course. Sachelle Edwards ran over 2 minutes faster then her course PR as did Erica Robinson. Super Job!!!! The boys finished 2nd with 42 points as expected but the individual performances were spectacular. The boys race had the 1st 4 C. Milton Wright guys and Izzy go through the mile in about 5:15. The pack narrowed to 2 before the mile and a half. The race was between Bailey and Izzy. They were stride for stride on record pace through 2 and a half miles. At the beginning of the hills on the way back Izzy moved to the lead and increased the lead with each up hill segment. Izzy pushed all the way through to the finish line and broke the incredible course record of 16:29 set by Greg Curtis in 1994. Izzy finished in 16:21 and was followed by incredible performances by 2 other seniors, Joel Selby (17:55) and Dustin Allen (18:24). Every varsity boy improved at least :56 seconds from the time trials and 7 guys broke 18:45 on this tough course. By the way Joel beat Coach Phil's time from when he ran in 1984 by :04 seconds. Another Scorpion Crawl will likely happen again after this great performance. The High School Net Results/Article
The girls finished 11th out of 20 teams. The teams that placed 9th, Century, and 10th, Atholton, are teams the girls hope to beat at the regional and county meets respectively. Molly McCourt continues to improve and looks like she is ready for the hilly courses coming up. The boys placed 4th out of 22 teams but Loch Raven placed 3rd. Mark Grgurich had to sit this one out but Izzy Mehmedovic beat everyone in a very competitive field which included Pat Bailey (3rd) from C. Milton Wright and Fanuel Chagaza (2nd) from Walter Johnson. Craig Lebro earned a #7 shirt with his performance.
The Harford Invite was back on the schedule and the Scorps had a spectacular performance. The girls finished 7th out of 12 while the boys finished 3rd out of 16. Allison Densmore placed 11th against a great field and Tracy Singer was 22nd. The boys beat 1A powerhouse Loch Raven and trailed county powerhouse Mt. Hebron by only 11 points. The fast course produced great times for everyone and Izzy Mehmedovic finished 2nd in 15:32. Pat Bailey from C. Milton Wright (the #1 ranked team in the state) finished 1st. Ricky McGinnis stepped it up to another level and finished 13th while providing a glimpse of his potential. Mohamed Abouelrous had his best race this season and finished 24th. Steve Levay ran great and moved up to #8 on the team. OM Times at Harford - Great Job Scorps The team traveled to Glenelg for the 3rd time in 4 years. The boys had their work cut out for them as Izzy Mehmedovic, Perry Gorelik and Adam Honecker did not run and Glenelg beat us last week at Mt. Hebron. The team decided to step it up as they knew the odds were not in their favor and knew a big effort would be needed by everyone. OM won the tri-meet by placing 6 runners in the top 10 (OM 31, Glenelg 36 and Atholton 61). Ricky McGinnis earned the #1 shirt for his performance and freshman Josh Tippetts and junior Kyle McGehee moved into the top 10 on the team for the 1st time this year. Mohammed Abouelrous had his best race this year by finishing 7th. The girls team provided some excitement by tying Atholton for 2nd after the 1st 5 finishers for each team. In the tie breaker, OM beat Atholton as Leigh Beaman finished before Atholton's 6th runner. Allison Densmore, Tracy Singer, Molly McCourt and Erica Robinson all finished just seconds in front of competitors which allowed the team the opportunity to go to the tie breaker. Tri Meet Results - Atholton & OM @ Glenelg
The team ran better and gained some confidence as we competed at Mt. Hebron (Glenelg and Centennial also competing). Competition was tough though; both teams finished 3rd. The girls were lead by Allison Densmore who finished 5th. The rest of the girls raced so well that they beat last years girls team (scoring it dual between the two) by 25 points. Glenelg edged out the boys for 2nd place by 2 points. Izzy Mehmedovic set a course record in 15:34 (previously set by Jon Goldsmith from Glenelg in 2000 - 16.00). Ricky McGinnis jumped into the #2 spot with a great race - 17:09. Kyle McGehee had his best race this year running 19:46. We could go on and on, the whole team ran very well. Again, GREAT JOB SCORPS. Keep up the hard work. The Scorps boys team entered the small school division instead of the elite division with high hopes. The small school division was very competitive and the team finished 5th. Izzy Mehmedovic finished 1st in the race with a time of 16.45. Mark Grgurich (earning the #2 spot on the squad finished in 33rd) and Ricky McGinnis (35th) ran very well; both runners ran faster then they did at the State Meet last year. The girls finished 10th and were lead by Allison Densmore (12th) and Molly McCort (29th). Almost every runner from the squad finished in a time faster than their time last year at this meet. Hereford Inv Results - Look in Small School Division for OM
As the weeks events (9/11/01) were on all of our minds we headed to the Howard County Striders Inv. The paragraph below sets the stage for the race. I pulled it off The High School Net's front page (nice writing). The girls placed 6th and had 3 girls finish in the top 20. Allison Densmore has moved in to the top group of female runners in the county with her 5th place finish. Erica Robinson and Sachele Edwards have also improved significantly from last year to help the team move up in the standings. The boys surprised many by placing 3rd. The word was, many did not think the boys would finish in the top half of the county this year but they appear to be in a position to do even better then that. Izzy Mehmedovic finished 2nd but Joel Selby's 11th place finish (9th out of county runners) was a pleasant start for the senior captain as he missed the Interstate Classic. The JV boys followed the coaches instructions and moved through the pack in the third mile to place 5th as a team. Craig Lebro led the way and earned an opportunity to compete in the Varsity race at Hereford on Saturday September 22. At the Interstate Classic, Michael Nathan took 3 minutes off of his time trials time and he took another 3 minutes off of that time at the Howard County Striders Inv. In comparing times at this point of the season, this years team is better then last years. Great job SCORPS! Patriotism shows at Howard County InvitationalTerrorists can't break spirit of competitors as race goes on Friday, September 15 -- Centennial runners were the envy of their Howard County competitors, not because they were hosting the Howard County Invitational on their home course, but because of the colors of their uniforms. On a day when showing ones' patriotism was paramount, many athletes and fans tried to wear or carry the colors of our flag. Centennial's red, white and blue uniforms went with the spirit and color of the day. With little U.S. flags posted in many locations around the course, and Tuesday's tragedy on the edge of every mind, the Howard County Invitational began with a moment of silence in honor and memory of the many victims and heroes. When the gun went off, the runners started with enthusiasm and spirit. They finished with courage and determination. The sun was shining and, in that moment, I realized... though our world changed dramatically on Tuesday morning, the strength and energy of our youth and the rightness of our way of life will never be defeated. from thehighschoolnet.com
OM Times at Howard County Striders Inv
In our first competition of the season, the Scorpions were very successful. The boys team finished 1st in the Small School Division at the Interstate Classic. The team looked very strong with Izzy leading the way, finishing 1st in the entire field (large and small schools). He ran a great time of 16.14. The girls team was much stronger than last year with Allison Densmore leading the way, finishing 8th in the Small School Division in 21.31 and earning a medal. Nice job to the whole OM Squad - great first meet. OM Times at Interstate Classic Time trials were held on the first day of September this year and it appears as though the teams prepared for the upcoming cross country season this summer. In comparing times to last years time trials, this years boys team beats last years and the girls destroy last years team. The thunderstorms the night before left the course muddy in certain areas but the performances were inspired. Everyone got off to a great start this season and Allison Densmore ran the 4th fastest time by an Oakland Mills female at a time trials event. Izzy tied the 7th fastest time ever by a male. Great job team, pain is temporary - championships are forever! Check out the pictures under Time Trials in the link at the top of the page. Below is the link for results. The road trip was successful. The team had a great time in Harford County running the trails and playing games. We spent 2 nights and 3 days camping out and spending time together as a team. Here are some pictures from the event. Also, there are pictures of the Scorpion 5K. Thank you parents for all your help! Check out the pictures at the link at the top of the page. Our first major event of the season took place on Saturday, August 18. We are happy to report that the Scorpion 5K was a success again. However we sure could have more alumni at the event. This event started as an alumni run so come on back! We had 46 people complete the 5K with Trey Cassidy (coach of Glenelg Country School) winning the race. Two members from from the team last year (Carl Haymon and Sean McGehee) had made several comments about beating Coach Phil at this event. The recent alumni did not beat the older alumni. We had 12 people complete the mile fun run. I believe the Obermeier brothers (Kevin and Sean) were 1st and 2nd (I will confirm this) and Tiffany Lang was 3rd. It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun. If you missed it this year, put it on your calendar for next year. Results below and pitcures above.
