Dan Jauch's Margin Multiplies at the Monster Mile

Even though Dan Jauch just missed a win this weekend by only 6 points, he was the only team to get a pick on position, which thus gave him the most picks on position bonus. This combined with a 4th place stumble by Whacker Racing gave Dan Jauch some huge strides in the point lead. In actual points, Dan Jauch now has more points than the 2nd place Winston Cup points driver, Kevin Harvick. The chase is on to see if he can catch Kenseth.

Kenseth should really learn how to control his emotions.
Now that we're down to 8 races to go. It's time to start burning up the calculator and see who stands where. Despite his large lead, Dan Jauch can really only afford an average finish of 2nd or better in the last 8 races to clinch the title. If he finishes an average of 3rd or worse, someone else can mathematically take it away from him. As far as who is in the title hunt, unfortunately Farmer's little slip this weekend with a 5th place finishes has just mathematically eliminated him from the championship. All teams however, are still mathematically eligible for the 2nd and 3rd place pay spots. Even Redneck Racing, who's been out to lunch for the past couple months.

We all cheer for the yellow 17, the yellow 17, the yellow 17...........
Anybody wondering about Winston Cup stats. Matt Kenseth need only finish 11th or better in the last 8 races to clinch the title. No one else can touch him if he does that. He can mathematically clinch the title as early as Oct. 11 at the Charlotte race. Although it may seem like Kenseth's lead is huge, there are still 18 drivers who could still mathematically be this year's champion. 19th place Greg Biffle was just eliminated from the championship after this weekend. 34th place Casey Mears has just been mathematically eliminated from the top 10 to be honored at the awards banquet. 39th place Mike Skinner has just been mathematically eliminated from the last pay spot of 20th position.

Here goes one of Dan Jauch's longshots for a spin.......but hey, longshot? He don't need no steeeenking longshot.

As Darrel Waltrip would say, Matt Kenseth has been making a TON of withdrawals from the luck bank. It may come time to pay the piper this weekend in "The Big One". The Winston Cup teams head back to the biggest, baddest track in the world this weekend. Kenseth got a little taste of the big one here in April, but he pretty much came out of it unscathed. Qualifying for the EA Sports 500 from Talladega, AL will begin at 3:05 pm CDT on Friday, September 26. It will be televised on a tape delay at 7pm CDT on Speed Channel.
