Japan has dozens of major cities, which play an important role in Japan's culture, heritage and economy.

Those in the list below of the ten most populous are all prefectural capitals and goverment ordinance cities.

In Japan Tokyo is the most populated city with over eight million residents living in that school.The second

largest city is Yokohama and the population there is over three million residents.
