The Women's Basketball Team
at Mt. Carmel has built a winning tradition over
the last eight seasons, through hard work and
dedication. The 1999-00 season saw the Lady Cougars
hang a championship banner in the "Cougar Dome" by
capturing the Chesapeake Women's Athletic
Conference Championship. The Cougars have finished
third in two of the past three seasons in the
IAAM C Conference. The Cougars will face tough
competition from conference rivals Baltimore
Lutheran, Oldfields, Garrison Forest, Beth TFiloh
and St. Timothy's.
Dedication is very important
during basketball season since the team plays and
practices over both Thanksgiving, and Christmas
Holidays. Mike Naunton begins his second season as
the head coach after serving two seasons as the
assistant coach. Coach Naunton's experience
includes having coached at Calvert Hall for three
seasons (1989-1991), where he was the head freshman
coach, and assistant varsity coach. The 1989
varsity Cardinals won the Baltimore Catholic League
Championship. Coach Naunton then spent seven seven
seasons as the assistant coach at the College of
Notre Dame, where the Gators won three AWCC titles.
Assisting Coach Naunton will be Mrs. Heather
Monroe, and Ms. Casey Buckstaff. Ms. Monroe was a
guard at North Little Rock HS, in Little Rock,
Arkansas, while Ms. Buckstaff was a four year
letter winner and post player at Prospect HS, in
Mount Prospect, Illinois.
