The Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Baseball team competes in the MIAA B conference.
Manager Mike Naunton (126-96) entering his twelth
season with the Cougars has led the team to eight
play-off appearances, and four championship games.
The 2001 season was full of landmarks as the
Cougars won their first ever MIAA B conference
championship, and Naunton recorded his 100th
victory as manager. Mr. Gus Smith, who just
finished his twenty -eighth year coaching at the
school, will once again assist Coach Naunton. Coach
Smith, a veteran Legion coach, concentrates on the
Cougar hitting. Also assisting the Cougars will be
Mike Lane, Andrew Ganzzermiller and Chris
Daniloski. Lane a graduate of Parkville HS, who
played at Miami Dade -North CC, will work with the
outfielders. The addition of Ganzzermiller and
Daniloski to the staff will mark the return of the
team MVP's in 2001 and 2002, and the continuance of
Cougar excellence on the baseball diamond. In
addition to the tough non-conference schedule that
includes A conference powers St. Paul's, Calvert
Hall and Loyola, the Cougars have established
rivalries with conference opponents Boys Latin,
Friends, Park, St. Mary's, Severn, Baltimore
Lutheran and St. Vincent Pallotti.
Practice for the Cougars
begins in late February, and concludes in mid-May.
The team calls Martindale Park its home, but is
also able to utilize the schools indoor batting
cage during inclement weather.
