History and Restauration of my Custom 68' next

My 68' was "born" in Dezember 1967 at the St. Luis Chevrolet Plant. The car was originally a red L36 Big Block Car (427/390 HP). The original owner lived in Rhode Island and owned a body shop. So it didn't take him long to do some modifications on the Vette. The first thing he did was adding a rear wing. In the early to mid 70's he converted the front of the car to a custom tilt front. He also integrated the
red corvette
headlights into the grille, relocated the battery and the fuse panel to the engine compartment where they can be accessed easier. The car was then (mid 70's) featured at car expos and shows. The owner changed the color of the Vette on a regular basis. At one point in time the car had flames painted on the side. During that time the car was only driven occasionally and always garaged. In the late 70's the owner lost interest in the car and stored it for a couple of years. When his daughter turned 16 - he let her use the car to drive to school  every day. A couple of years later, after she graduated and moved away he stored the car again. Years later, in the mid to late 80's (after moving to Connecticut) he traded the car for a pavement!!!! The engine didn't run anymore (after many years of storage) and so he replaced the engine with a rebuilt 327 engine before he traded it. The owner of the pavement company was very enthusiastic about old Chevy's. He actually was more interested in Chevelles, but he thought that getting a Vette for a pavement was not a bad deal. He had (and still has) a very big, heated garage with space for approx. 8 - 9 cars.. In his spare time - he likes to fix up "All Original" Chevelles and Vettes. He was very busy in the late 80's and during the 90's with his other cars and so he never started restoring the Vette. He wanted to make some space in his garage and so he put the car on the Autotrader in January 2001. I was the first person that called for the ad. 3 days later I took a plane to Newark and went with a rental car to North Stonington (CN) where the car was located. The car was very rough. The body had many cracks and spiders, the parking brake was missing the majority of the electrical system was inoperative.... Then I looked at the frame.. The frame was in perfect absolutely rust free condition!!! I checked the rear wheel bearings and they were completely tight. Then I started the engine. There was no smoke, no strange noises. I drove the car for about half a mile and it drove pretty good. However - stopping was another story. The brakes on the car were completely worn. All 4 calipers were leaking ...
