TheSo, very long long story short...after the death of my step-father, I go to Texas and we arepot
at the end of the Rainbow Family
I am going to pass through time...Past shows in Texas...1985...1986...The summer of 1987, Desiree
and I head for Malibu, California, where I will now
call a home and my travels to be a dad will be from
Malibu to Missoula, more times than anyone would
ever believe unless they read my journal and saw all
the pictures of Dez and I on the road traveling from
1983 to 1990. I am going back from Malibu to Montana
and working on my project Kickin' Up Dust, while I
continue to write and add chapters to SOME RAN EAST
SOME RAN WEST, about the state and fate of children
in the United States. Our trip to Hollyweird and the next years of my ex-
periences there will be in the book...Meanwhile Back
at the Ranch...Thom Steinbeck, son of John Steinbeck
and old friend, read my manuscript in his bathtub and
once told me it had him laughing and crying.
July 24, 1991, I am in Malibu with my daughter Desiree. I get a call from my brother
that my Mother has died. My sister and I know that she was brought to her death by
my step-father. The next year my little brother dies of Aids, in 1993 I have a huge deal
with IBM go south about the time I find out my girl-friend is going to have a baby, my
step-father dies and some crooked lawyers and business partners of his of his forge the
will. I begin a battle that has two dozen lawyers telling me I should write a book, or
my case could be a movie in Hollywood...FOR MORE ON THAT BOOK VISIT:
September 1993 Tammy and
I drive our truck to Missoula, Montana
Our money is running low. Winter is hitting Montana and I was not able to find any work. I was
being told by the lawyers in Texas that they would have us "thousands" of dollars before too long.
Tammy is having a hard first few months of her pregnancy. We are having to eat out every meal and
live in very depressing motels that were cold and dirty. Everyone in my family was now dead. I
had no help. Things got worse and this guy I had know and had rented a room from before had
a bus out at his place and said that Tammy and I could live in his bus. So for some time we were
staying in a bus in the dead of a Montana winter. Tammy was a wreck...I would have to wake up
at night and in the morning and build a wood fire in the bus...then the bus would get so smoky we
could not breath...God it was miserable. What my life was putting Tammy through was not fare
to her...I for it I know now she will hate me forever. So this guy I knew had a friend he introduced me to by the name of Rochelle Glasgow. He knew
that I had been in the business of producing concerts and said that he knew she had some money
and might be interested in investing in some concerts and maybe start a production company. In
my state of desperation there in Missoula I was looking to go back into the field that I worked in a
good bit of my adult life...the business of entertainment. I was also anxious to put some of the
new things to work that I had learned in the work I was doing with IBM and CD-Roms. This is all
well documented, but in the entertainment business I was one of the pioneers in the first
applications of music on the Internet. She came on so cool and straight. An associate introduced me and at the time I really was
not aware of the dirty doings of her and her husband and her crooked buddies. She takes me
to meet a lady friend of hers that has a ranch and her husband works at Sentinel High school.
She was said to have been in banking for many years and would have no problem in raising the
money needed to put together a Concert Production company. They were most interested in
setting up a annual Festival and we agreed to go into business together. After years in the
trenches of Hollywood, I have never been scammed so seriously by such trash. I did manage to
get them to an attorney before hand and we drew up a contract which they breached in many
ways and broke the contract on several points.Rochelle Glasgow worked for the Lambros Reality in Missoula. This partner of hers seemed very
straight and business like. We drew up the contract. Everybody agreed and signed the contract.
I might have been born yesterday, but I stayed up late last night...I had been in this business
long enough to know that I would need to get something on paper for me to go out on the limb.
I was the one who put forth the effort to get a good agreement together, and would for sure to this
day I would put this contract before any judge or jury to show where I had been breached and taken
to the cleaners on a south bound train by the Glasgow gang. I had it all in writing. Had they kept
their signed agreement there would have been no problems. Then for some deep--not sure where it
is coming from--feeling that I was set up. Something about this all seemed so planned. I don't
know? Seems I was lead down some strange road...Prior to the actual concert date I had had problems with Glasgow putting up the money that was
contracted to produce the show. The first money was paid into the account and I began to do
my job and secure the talent, the venue, sound/lights, book rooms and transportation for our acts. I
took a very small draw for the deal and Tammy and I were still having to live in cheap motel rooms
here and there around Missoula. She was nearing the due date as we were starting to have problems
with the Glasgow gang putting up the agreed money to continue to produce the show. I never saw the
"banker" lady again. Rochelle brought in some friends of hers, some "hippie" types. They put in some
money, but not enough to reach the agreements that were made. Things were seeming very shaky with
these new people, and where was all the BIG money that she and the banking lady with a big ranch
said would be no problem with...and again, who were these hippies that she was bringing to the
table with a thousand here and two thousand there, but no were near the money needed to produce the
show as was agreed.A few weeks prior to the show when putting out the advertising and making final payments were so very
important the Glasgow gang said that there would be no more money. There I was out on this limb...I had
done my job. Everybody was booked and advances had been made, but they were now breaching the
contract. A week or less before the show, when I was saying that they were going to have to deal with me
in court over this, her husband came over to our house and threatened to shoot me with his gun if I give
them any more problems. My wife as a witness he said that he had a gun and would use it on me if I
even tried to cut them out of the deal. This man I would find out was a drug dealer in town. I do not deal
very good with fear, and these folks had me very scared, especially since my wife had just had our new
son only weeks ago and we were very vulnerable and at the mercy of this show and these people.I am still having my daily battle with the lawyers in Texas. By this time we are starting to realize that we
are getting screwed out of our Family Estate. The stress and the time it was taking me to try and figure
out all the legal aspects of this and realizing that what was happening to us had my mind so in confusion
and Tammy was having a very hard time and feeling bad with her pregnancy and us being so broke.
She was seeing the stress that I was under working so hard on the show and seeing the screwing that
was starting make her a wreck.Because of the lack of money to advertise the show ticket sales were very low. Going into the show
there was much confusion because of the way that the Glasgow gang was acting and treating me. Like
they were trying to kill the show...I kept getting a strange "set up" feeling. I had done so much work to
have all the arts and crafts set up, the venue, sound, lights, all the acts confirmed and permits, etc to do
the MOUNTAIN COUNTRY ART AND MUSIC FESTIVAL. I had done my job and stayed in budget. The real problem began the night of the opening show. First, contrary to reports. Waylon Jennings had
been paid his $7,000.00 advance. It was on Cashier's Check # 135651 on the First Security Bank in
Missoula on March 10th made out to Buddy Lee Attractions, his booking agent. (Copy of check is
belowt.) Thursday was the opening day of the show and Waylon was the headline for that night.
Attendance was nothing like we had hoped, but I knew that with a four day show we only had to have one
good night or three fair nights to break even and go into profit. I told Rochelle to have at least $10,000
cash at the show for me to do some pay outs.I had problems all day with Rochelle and her gang. She brought on this crew of people to work for
her festival that were a rag tag bunch of hippies, one guy was wearing a loin cloth like he was
some kind of Indian, they set up tents, slept in their cars...some drove in from some other
areas and were all friends of Rochelle and her husband. She insisted that her gang would be
hired to do the work. I could not get any of these people to work for me, I could not get any
help and/or support from them and was treated like I was the enemy. They were all smoking
pot, eating all the food that had been delivered and were causing total confusion during a day
that was already a bit confusing. They were acting like they were at some kind of "pot festival."
I have witness to the group of people that she brought to the festival, and matched against the
very professional and real people that I had a the show....something is wrong with this picture.
It was like somebody just went out and found some street scum...these folks were not even
hippies...hippie is a good word compared to this gang she brought to help, or bring down the show.I got some of my people to chip in and help me do some of the jobs that needed to be worked
out. The show started on time. I had some problems with Billy Runs Above. His group did
not like the idea that they had to perform outside and could not perform on stage where Waylon
was playing. I could not get them to go on, a few of his people helped, but some of them left and
would not perform. The show started...all acts booked to play went on. Waylon's bus came
on time with the band and their equipment. We got them all set up on time. I had food that
they required in their rider and everything seemed to be going well. Playing right before Waylon
was the singing cowboy legend Buck Page. Buck formed the Riders of the Purple Sage in
1936, and was a true living legend. I was partners with Buck and he is like my adopted grandfather.
Buck brought his wife and band up to Montana for the show. He was very excited to open right
before Waylon. When Buck started the set, all of Waylon's band was at the venue and had eaten and were
ready to go. As it got near the end of Buck's set Waylon had not showed up yet. I was
starting to feel a little panic when he finished his set and Waylon was not there. Soon
Waylon's bus pulled up. His road manager got off the buss and said I need $7,000.00, and
it has to be in cash. I went back to Rochelle, who of course was running the box office and
had all the money from the take at the door, and had collected all money from ticket outlets
and was in control of the bank account. She said that she was not going to give me any
money. People were still coming in and paying at the door. Rochelle is yelling at me that
this show was going to cost her money and she was keeping the money. Said she was
going to cancel the rest of the show.I then went and got together $4,000.00 dollars to pay Waylon. Said that I would give him a
personal Company check and my attorney Phillip Rosen was there to guarantee it. In fact said
that if they could give us some time he would try to use his credit card to get the money to cover
the rest of the money. Phillip Rosen at the time was Vice President of New Line Cinema and
attorney of business affairs for New Line. I also had three of my partners that work very close with
Willie Nelson there to vouch for me and the show...There was Thomas Steinbeck, who is the son
of writer John Steinbeck. I had Dan Jones, Field Producer for Kevin Costner and award winning
Native American producer. Lex Hames and old associate and one of the top people for years in
the promoting of the film business in Montana and long time Missoula resident there to help with
our show.Waylon's road manager said sorry got to have $7,000.00, cash or Wayon does not go on. I had
given them a $7,000 advance and paid for their hotel rooms. I could not understand why he was
being so unreasonable. I talked some to the guys in Wayon's band and the stage manager and
they seemed very perplexed and found it hard to believe that Wayon would not play, just for the
fact that there were people out there waiting. I asked him if I could get on the bus and talk to
Waylon. I had my 8 year old daughter with me, she could see how upset I was and said that
she had some money that she could give him. I about cried. The guy said NO. Got on the bus
and they drove off. ( Waylon Jennings had been paid his $7,000.00 advance. It was on

ssssssAnd above we have
a copy of advance check that was issued to Wayon on March 10, 1994.
A few hours later I hear a story from Thom Steinbeck, who was like a brother to me, and who
I mentioned was the son of the third most read author in the world. Thom, who was at the hotel
where Waylon was staying experienced a situation and told me the following account. The story
was confirmed by five other associates that were witness to the situation. I would later have
the story confirmed by the manager of the hotel where all my entertainers were booked...so,
sorry Waylon...I have kept this story to myself all these years, but now about to go down the
tubes and need to have all the truths that I know on my side. I hope you will still help with the
Jimmie Rodgers story that I am working on with Billy Ray (another story folks).Where is truth and where is fiction in life? I have always tried to live by the truth and with the
truth as a practice. Grew up in the Baptist Belt, grandmother always taught me to tell the
truth...and as Mark Twian would say, "If you always tell the truth you do not have to try to
remember anything." Through my years of doing work with and for children I had learned to
search for the Truth and deal with facts and had to present this to Governors and congressmen,
my reputation has always been important to me...bad at judging people sometime though...I
know problem has always been that I trust to much.AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE MORE ON MY WORK AND REPUTATION AT:
http://www.geocities.com/someranwestStory is told that during the time prior to Waylon going on stage at the Sentinel High School
Gym there was a series of disturbances at the Red Lion Inn down by the Clark Fork River.
I hear that Waylon had disappeared for some time with Montana wild man Hank Williams,
Jr. When they came back drunk Wayon got into a fight with wife Jessy and the hotel was
near calling 911 because of the extent of the argument. I also hear that Hank Williams, Jr.
had been kicked out of the bar and was causing a ruckus in the lobby of the hotel. I heard
several versions of these basic lines, and all seemed to confirm. I am told that Waylon is
so drunk that there was no way that he could perform. I had also been told that Waylon
was to have been "on the wagon" or something and this is why his wife was so angry...
I am told this story by about seven or eight people. I was not there...I was at the venue
waiting and wondering why the road manager would not at least let me and my lawyer and
daughter get on the bus and talk to Wayon about playing a few song for old time sake...
Was Waylon on the bus?Waylon's band started packing up. I could tell talking to the band and the road crew that they all
thought something was wrong and it was not like Waylon to not at least play for the folks that
some had driven from southern Canada to see him. I have always had a feeling that something
was wrong...something was very very wrong.I had a big fight with Rochelle and made her let me in the box office and give me enough money
to give everybody back their money that wanted it...I stood there at the box office and refunded
money to every person that came up to the box office. We could have just shut the box office
and dealt with this all at a later date. I knew the right thing to do was give people their money.
It took a fight, but every body got their money back that night.I did not run the accounting or the check book for the show, I had left that in the hands of the
accountant and the financial partners. I did have ability to sign checks to make production
expenses. And deposits were made into my production account to pay some of the expense.
I had an agreement with these folks and I trusted that they would keep their end of the bargain,
for I had kept mine, by getting the show produced. I had done a budget and was staying in the
budget lines on everything. Also, with my crew was Len Dell Amico, one of the top music video producers in rock and roll
known as a master at a 10 or 12 camera shoot. This man has worked with every body from
Bob Dylan to the Grateful Dead to Willie Nelson and on and on...Also, there with me was
Heather Rae, who runs the Native American program for Robert Redford and the Sundance
Film Institute, which she also works for. Bobby Bridger my old friend from Austin, Texas was
there. Bobby is kin to Jim Bridger, the mountain man that the Bridgers mountain range in
Montana is named after. Bobby is a old friend and I had him come up and open for the
Emmylou Harris concert that I produced and sold out in the same gym where the show was
now taking place. Dan Jones of the Ponca Tibe and a field producer for Kevin Costner was
there as a buddy to help and hang out, I was honored to have all these great people and many
come up from Los Angeles, California at their own expense. Also, I had brought up the legendary Roger McGuinn founding member of the Byrds and the one
and only David Grisman. I had also booked my Native American friend Robby Romero and had
Knife Wing to perform along with some Native American performers from Montana. All of these
entertainers had been paid their advances and I had the contracts worked out with them to perform.
Everyone had their rooms arranged, I had everything arranged to feed my staff and the entertainers
for four days. I had met ALL ends of my agreement. I look back and still see one of the big
problems was that a few weeks before the show...to the day they pulled the plug I had to operate
in the final important week of promotions and preparing for the show with no money to advertise or
make final arrangements. So now Rochelle is saying that the show is canceled. All her people started packing up the things
I said that the show was on, and that her people could leave and I was going ahead with the show.
The Food company B & R Foods that had been brought into the deal by Rochelle and that were
her friends took all the food back that they had brought. They had only brought a certain amount of
the food that was contracted out for the four days. This is why I had issued them a $2,053.35 check
that was a "hold check". The guy (friend of Rochell's) said that he would just hold the check
because we were not sure right then if we were going to go through everything or might need more.
As of Thursday night B & R Foods left the grounds and took all their food, except for that served to
our staff and the bands on that afternoon and evening meal. Then B & R Foods deposits the check
and when it does not clear they file on me with the County Attorney. Go figure. There are so many
instances like this in my full report. Remember Rochelle and this B&R guy are asshole buddies.CLICK HERE TO READ A RECENT LETTER TO B & R FOODS...requesting that they could at
least send me a bill for all the damage that has happend to me over something they never gave to
me...One of my "how the cow at the cabbage letters."Rochelle and her gang were doing everything she could to cancel the show. I met with all
my associates and talked to the other groups that were there and everybody said "The
show must go on!" I still knew that it would just take one good day and we could have all
our money back and be in the black. There was not that much real capitol invested and I
was even told over and over in the early days that they realized that when starting a annual
event the first show was always the hard one to get to fly.I also had to deal with several of her guys playing tough guy with me. There were violent
threats and one guy pushed me around, I got a security person to be with me for the rest
of the evening and next day. I later became friends with one of the people she brought up
because he stayed around and through another friend I got to know him. He said that
Rochell and her husband told him to follow me and see where I was going and what I
was doing...The violent edge to these people put another level of fear in me and added
confusion to a already hard night...all this had my wife flipping out and she was going crazy
with worry and fear. They were acting like some kind of little "gang" or "mob."The next day Rochelle came to our door and was screaming and yelling at my wife and had
her so afraid that she called the police to come and they were witness to the irate and
wild crazy behavior that Ms. Glasgow was exhibiting. She was yelling in front of the cops that
she was going to ruin me. She was screaming and yelling with the Missoula Police right there.
I am not sure why she had to take this fear and yelling right to my wife. She had only had a
baby weeks before and she was freaking out and upsetting my wife very very much, she
seemed to want to spread all her anger and panic everywhere she could for several days.Meanwhile that night a reporter with the Missoulian was backstage trying to ask me questions.
I did not like her attitude and knowing the Missoulian I knew that they were going to eat my
lunch. A little down the road I will put some copies of the articles that came out and tell some
stories I heard about things that Waylon Jennings office said that they heard from this reporter
before Wayon even went on or before we did not know that he was not going to play...in short
they told me that they had gotten a call from a reporter at the Missoulian that told them that
Waylon Jennings was not going to get his money, they said that this journalist from the
Missoulian was saying I had a bad reputation in town and was a con man, that everybody in
town were owed money and many other slander and liable stories...MORE ON THIS IN A
CHAPTER SOON...I thought back to all the problems I had with the Missoulian for years of
doing shows in Missoula. In fact one of the number one reasons the music business can not
get off the ground or survive in Missoula.I went ahead and produced the entire full four day show, though Sunday night we had to
do some of the show at a club in Missoula, Rochelle kept doing what she could to shut it
down and she finally talked the sound and light people into packing up everything saying
that the school said they did not want the show to go on. Sunday morning by the time I got
to the school all the sound and light were packed. She had finally succeeded in shutting the
show down. I was by this time afraid of them and had had several violent threats made to
me and later find out that they had some people follow me for a few days.Stay tuned to hear more about the following three days...and the aftermath
when Rochelle and the gang close all the bank accounts, close the office, cut
off the phones, pull all the plugs, lock up all my records and books in the
office, and they pack up their gang, make violent threats against me and my
family. The fact they are the organizers of the in
Colorado seems to be another IRONY IN THE FIRE. I am to starting to
learn more about who these people are.Stay tuned for stories about drug dealers, money, and lies, articles that came
out in the Missoulian and how I was handling the aftermath...I was railroaded
out of town...guns and lies. My wife is falling apart, I had to get her safe...
Knowing we were still having millions stolen from us in Texas, I packed up
my little family and sang "Good Bye To Ole Missoula." Before leaving I paid
off several thousand dollars of debts and have records to my business follow
up. I wrote letters to all parties concerned and made sure that I had contacted
everyone and have records to all my correspondence and payments. Our house was just across the street from these Rainbow gangsters and my
wife and I were very afraid and wanted to leave before they returned from
their Rainbow Gathering with their guns and tough guys. Such an irony to me
that these guys are some of the "organizers" of the Rainbow Gathering...
Peace and Love...go figure.Meanwhile back at the Ranch...
INNOCENT IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY JAIL FOR 39 DAYS
I will later fill in the story between leaving Missoula and ending up in the Los Angeles
County Jail and I feel a process of persecution that has stomped all over my Civil rights
and has kept me from being a father to my children, a husband to my wife, a productive
member of my society, while I fall deep into financial ruin and watch my health decline...
while I work to feed my children and keep them safe and try to create a situation where
I could make enough money to pay for my legal defense and take care of the finances of
my life...GOOD BYE TO OLE MISSOULA Cybersequel A weekly update on the movement of this saga and chapter to the life of Benford E. Standley,
with flashbacks to the years in Missoula, you will also read the letters he is presently
writing regarding his case, responses, personal thoughts on justice and his efforts to just
stay alive so that he can help raise his four children and a grand daughter into a very Brave
New World.I will also set up a place to post emails and communications that come back to me regarding
similar problems people may be having with their own justice, comments and such from readers.
