The watermanship and swimming club has always been privileged to enjoy the reputation of being easily the most active, with activities such as boating, canoeing, sailing and even skiing on club days. It was also not uncommon to hold a number of adventure trips relating to watermanship organised by members. This year, due very much to the temporary inavailability of the club's boathouse and lake, emphasis was as agreed on by the members, placed on swimming. We were fortunate to be able to use the facilities at the Ministry of Defence and later at the RMAF for this purpose.

Activities began early in January with swimming lessons for the beginners and other interested parties. Preparation for the MSSS competition in March was in the form of three evenings at the Kolam Renang Bandaraya. These sessions were a very great success despite being limited to giving the Putras a feel of both the game of waterpolo and the pool.

MSSS Swimming Competition

We competed in both the U-20 and U-16 age groups and fielded a team in the water-polo.

U-20
We were represented in a number of events by the following putras:-
Mohd Adzmi b. Ariffin
Shazali Sulaiman
Peter Long Chay Boon
Shukri Hashim
R. Ravichandran

Mohd Adzmi was able to win the silver in 400m freestyle and the bronze in the 1,500m open event, while Shazali and Shukri both won the bronze in the 400m freestyle and 100m breast stroke respectively.

U-16
In this section, our only representative in Choo Joon Hee won the silver with records in both the 100m and 200m backstroke and the bronze in the 100m freestyle.

Waterpolo.

Our team did quite well in winning the team bronze as only 3 of our players had previous experience. The team comprises:

Mohd Adzmi b. Ariffin
Shukri Hashim
Choo Joon Hee
Peter Long Chay Boon
Shazali Sulaiman
lkmal Hisham

Malaysian Age Group Swimming Championships

We were greatly honoured to have a number of our swimmers invited to join the Armed Forces team participating in this meet at Kuching, Sarawak from the 9th to llthe of June. Centralised training was held during the 3 days before departure at the Ministry of Defence. The putras selected were:
Peter Long Chay Boon (Captain)
Shazali Suleiman
Shukri Hashim
Choo Joon Hee
Amiruddin Suleiman

Although they were relatively unsuccessful in their individual events, Choo Joon Hee and Amiruddin Suiaiman helped the Armed Forces relay team to the silver in the 4 x 100m freestyle and then, they together with Shukri Hashim formed the backbone of the 4 x 100m medley relay team to win the silver. They have gained much from the experience and it is that their example would lead to further successes among the other putras. With the termination of the 'puasa period', training in ernest would begin for next year. We would also to thank our advisor, Mr. Oi Loh Kah for his support, without which much of our activities would not have been possible.
