More Changes
I restored the V-Berth to the original look and used that new "fusion" paint for the bulkheads. No more of the old finish flaking off everywhere we touched it.
I ran wiring for running lights and cabin lights as well as an interior fan. I secured the battery under the cockpit bench on the starboard side behind the fuse panel box, which I built from Pine. The panel has enough extra switches for the new depth finder and a 12V outlet to run a  high-powered spotlight, charge cell phones or dvd player batteries, as well as a port to trickle-charge the battery with my solar charger.
I hard-wired the 400W AC inverter directly to the battery and bolted it the back of the companionway wood piece.
The topsides were the worst problem in the looks department. I sanded the poorly painted non-skid, although much of the peeling came off with acetone. I decided to leave a little bit on to provide a bit of traction when wet. The blotchy areas on the cabin deck were done with gel-coat, which didn't cover or finish up well. The rest was done with the same kind of spray paint I used inside. This came out much better, and in a year or two, I'll redo the other sections the same way. Since ventilation was a problem, I solved much of it with the solar powered nicro vent shown on the foredeck hatch, along with companionway  hatch vents and a couple of clamshell vents at the stern(thanks for the tip, Lee !)
