Jasmine's Story
McGee
Jasmine woke with a large yawn. Oh, another day with nothing exciting
to do, she thought to herself. The days were getting brighter and longer
as the sun rose earlier and set later. Spring was on it's way and Jasmine
was bored. I need to find myself a hobby, she thought. Meowmie has all
kinds of hobbies. She goes bowling with her friends once a week. She jogs
every morning. She stops on the way home from work at the gym. She makes
pottery in the basement and then gets a chance to paint what she makes.
She is very lucky to have these hobbies. It keeps her happy and smiling
all of the time.
I have to find myself some hobbies too. I am tired of chasing the catnip
mouse and balls all over the house. I need something different to pursue.
Maybe I should ask Meowmie what kind of hobby I can do. I am so very
restless and bored with no hobbies to pursue. When Meowmie wakes up I
will ask her for some advise to help me with this spring fever.
Name: Shibui
Jazmine was restless, but she didn't want to disturb her meowmie's sleep.
Quietly, she slipped off the bed and jumped into the front bedroom window.
It was early, but there was already a lot of activity in the yard. Several
birds were at the feeder and a large one was monopolizing the birdbath.
A very colorful bird was perched on a tree branch near the window.
Jazmine had never seen one like it and she wondered where it came from.
She wished that her meowmie would wake up, so she could see it too.

Just then, her Meowmie woke up and noticed Jasmine at the windowsill.
"Good morning my beautiful girl. What are you looking at?"
Jasmine purred to her Meowmie, "I wish that you could take me for a
walk in the yard so that I can see what is starting to grow again.
I wish to learn about plants and birds. I need a hobby and gardening
and birding seem to hold my interest."
Meowmie arose from her bed and came to the window and said to Jasmine..."
Sam
I think you have a wonderful idea, Jasmine. It would be good for both
of us to get outside in the fresh air and inspect our flower beds. You
know how I worry about you when you are outside, so we will try out that
pretty new leash I bought for you last week. Our friend Sam goes for walks
on his leash quite often.
Jasmine wasn't too sure about the leash, but she knew that she wanted
to be outside, so she would try it. Besides, when she and Meowmie were
out working in the flower beds together, they seemed to have a very
wonderful bond, so maybe they would feel this way even if she were on
a leash!
Jasmine jumped down from her window sill and...
McGee
headed to her food to have her breakfast while Meowmie headed to her
shower and to dress. "Hmm, thought Jasmine, I will be learning how to
cope with a kitty leash. I sure hope that it does not get into my way
when I am gardening. Meowmie wants me to be safe and that is what really
counts. I just can't wait to get outside to see what is happening with
all of the birds and flowers. Maybe Meowmie will take me for walks with
her if I am wearing my leash. That will be good exercise for me and...
Sam
I can see what is going on in the neighborhood. It has been very difficult
sitting in the window, looking outside, and wondering what all of my kitty
friends are doing. I might even get lucky and see that catsome tabby that
I saw walk by our yard a few weeks ago. He certainly was catsome. Hmm,
maybe this leash idea isn't so bad after all! I must be sure to...
McGee
make sure that I am well groomed in case I meet him on my walk with Meowmie.
Oops! I have to ask Meowmie if we can take a walk while on my leash. It will
be good exercise for both of us. I put on a few "tubby" pounds this past winter.
That tabby cat should fall for such a purty tortie as me."
Meowmie came into the kitchen and said to Jasmine..."

"While I was taking my shower, I had another idea. If we walk to the library,
we can check out some books about birding and gardening." Jazmine was very
excited about this idea. Not only might she see that catsome tabby, she would
finally have an opportunity to meet Molli, the kitty who supurrvised the
reference area of the library. "Oh yes, Meowmie," she exclaimed. "That's a
wonderfur idea! I have finished grooming myself and I am ready to put on my
leash." "I'm glad that you're so eager to go with me, Jazmine," Meowmie said
with a smile. "But may I have a little breakfast first? I see that you've
already had yours."
"Of course, Meowmie," said Jazmine. "Why don't you have a bowl of cereal and
a glass of juice?" "Good idea, Jazmine," said her meowmie, as she took a cereal
bowl from the cabinet. While her meowmie ate breakfast, Jazmine ...
Sam
Ran to the bathroom, jumped up on the counter and looked carefully at herself
in the mirror. This was going to be a very important day and she must look ever
so pretty. After removing a few stray hairs, she peered once more at her reflection
and decided she looked very pretty indeed. Oh, thought Jasmine, this day has so
many pawsibilities. I can't wait to get started!
Jasmine jumped down from the counter and ran into the kitchen just as Meowmie
was rinsing out her bowl. She rubbed on Meowmies legs and purred...
McGee
"Meowmie, can we walk through the park which is right before the library?
I would like to see what is happening there. They have a nice lawn swing there
that we can share a ride in. We used to ride on that swing together when I was
a young cat. Today is such a sun shiny day."
Meowmie said, "That would be a lot of fun to do together. Yes! I would like to
have a swing in the park. I saw the workers putting up the swings when I drove
by on the way home. Come on, let's go! How do you like the leash?"
"Well, it will take some getting used to but I won't mind wearing it if I
can go outdoors."
Jasmine and her Meowmie started their walk and were getting close to the
park when Jasmine noticed...
Sam
a familiar looking kitty who was following a little girl down the sidewalk.
Jasmine's little heart began to flutter. She couldn't tell who that nice
looking cat was from where she and Meowmie were, but there was something
familiar about him. Him! She seemed to automatically know that it was a him.
Could it be a tabby? "Oh, my, thought Jasmine! What if it is the catsome tabby
I was hoping to meet?"
Jasmine sped up her pace hoping that Meowmie would follow suit. Just then...
McGee
they caught up to the little girl and tabby cat. It was the tabby cat who walked
by her yard! "Mew, said Jasmine, to the tabby cat, slow down. I am your neighbor
Jasmine." The tabby cat stopped and the little girl and Jasmine's meowmie noticed
that Jasmine and the tabby cat were trying to get acquainted. They were both
purring and mewing to each other.
Jasmine's meowmie introduced herself to the little girl. "I have seen you walk by
our house before with your tabby friend. You must be a neighbor."
"Yes, the little girl replied. I have noticed your cat sitting in the window as I
have passed by with my cat Tigger. We are neighbors. I have seen you in the library
too, which is where Tigger and I are headed."
While this chatter between Meowmie and the little girl was going on, Jasmine and
Tigger were getting acquainted too. Tigger mewed to Jasmine,"I have noticed you
before in the window of the house next door to my house. We just moved in a month
ago. I was hoping to meet you."
Jasmine replied, "I wanted to meet you too. I saw you walking by the other day."
Jasmine's meowmie then told the group, "Before we were going into the library,
Jasmine and I were going to take a ride on the lawn swings in the park. Will you
two join us?"
"Yes! replied the little girl. I have been wanting to take a ride on a swing.
I am so happy that spring has come. Tigger and I were getting bored in the house.
We found the library on our first week here in this new town. I noticed the workers
putting up the swings yesterday afternoon."
The four headed over to the swings when they noticed...
McGee
a robin busy pulling up a large worm. "Mew, purred Jasmine, Spring is here.
Meowmie told me that the robin is a harbinger of spring."
The four headed over to the swings and selected one to ride in. As they were
riding and enjoying the moments the little girl told them her name was Estelle
and that she was ten years old. She mentionned that she was lonely as both of
her parents worked days and she had not made any friends at school yet.
Meowmie told her, "Why don't I come over to your house tonight with a welcome
basket to meet your parents and tell them about our town and the various activities
and groups in it. That would help all of you to get acquainted with our town."
Estelle replied,"That would be great!"
The ride was over and the quartet headed over to the library where they saw...
McGee
Molli, the pretty cat who was in charge of the Kitty's Room at the library.
She was helping a kitten pick out a book to read. Molli always helped
Jasmine pick out some great books to purruse too. Jasmine introduced Tigger
to Molli, meanwhile hoping that he would not want her to be his special
furiend because she wanted to be his special furiend. Besides, Molli had
a wink-wink of her own.
Meowmie and Estelle left the two cats in the Kitty's Room and went to their
own book sections to see what interested them.
"Mew, Molli said to Jasmine, who's your new furiend?"
"His name is Tigger and he is my next door neighbor. We just met in the
park today," Jasmine purred to Molli.
Molli noticed how catsome Tigger was as she purred her welcome to him. But,
it seemed that Jasmine had made a conquest as he kept looking at Jasmine
while trying to carry on a conversation with Molli. Molli showed Tigger
the male cat section in their room and went back to chat with her friend
Jasmine. "How have you been this winter. Aren't you glad that it is
Spring?" she mewed.
"I was getting very bored cooped up in the house, Jasmine replied. But now
Spring is here and Meowmie and I are going to start to do some gardening
together. Plus, I met Tigger and his owner Estelle today! We had a great
time getting acquainted in the park!"
Molli noticed Jasmine's enthusiasm and said to her..."
McGee
"You are positively glowing. I do not think that you have spring fever
anymore. You are enjoying yourself and you have new friends. Tigger's owner
seems like a nice young lady. She and your Meowmie are looking at books in
the gardening section, I notice. Maybe the four of you will be gardening
together and enjoying the beautiful spring flowers."
"Yes! Jasmine answered enthusiatically. Besides having the hobby of gardening
I will be enjoying new friendships. This has become a wonderful day for me.
I will be busy with gardening and my new friendships. I will have no time to
be bored. Everything is coming up Roses for me."
Just then, Meowmie and Estelle returned to the room and showed Jasmine and
Tigger all of the wonderful books that they found about gardening. "Come on,
you two felines, say good-bye to Molli. We have plenty of things to do before
we can start planting. Estelle is going to plant a flower garden too if her
parents let her. Jasmine, I can promise you that you will not become bored
like you were this morning. We have to meet Estelle's parents this evening
and we have to clean up our flower borders this afternoon. Estelle and Tigger
can help us! We are going to have fun."
"Yes, Meowmie, we are going to celebrate Spring," Jasmine purred. It's a
wonderful world."
