(Melbourne Glass Bottle Works.)

The trade mark was registered to Foy & Gibson's Department Store, Melbourne, Australia, on July 6, 1899.

Foy & Gibson had department stores in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.

The separate colonies within Australia became a Federated Commonwealth under one flag in 1901, as a result of referendum.

The jar would date around 1908, with the four stars on the flag representing Foy & Gibson's four state chain of department stores.
Chances Walnut Jar once belonged to William Chance and his wife Louisa who arrived in Adelaide in the year 1839.

The couple took up land in Unley, where they established extensive varied produce orchards.

By 1860, they had built a factory on the corner of Unley Road, Parkside, to process Jams, Sauces, Pickles, Tomato Sauce, Chutnee, etc.

The walnut jar would date mid 1860s, and is extremely rare with under 5 known.
