The late
Albert (Mim)
Tuckwell's collection
Joseph Onesimus Ladd (round-ender) 1860s.

This maugham patent bottle (commonly called a round-ender) is heavily embossed with a ribbon with J.O. Ladd in it.

Joseph Ladd's business commence in 1849 from premises in Hindley Street, Adelaide. Successive factories were established in the years to follow in Flinders and Rundle Street's.
In his spare time Joseph enjoyed racing and breeding horses on his large property at Lockley's, and was a well known benefactor of the Adelaide Zoological Gardens. After his death in 1882, Joseph's widow Caroline Ladd and some of their sons continued to trade very successfully in ginger beer and aerated water production. They out grew their Rundle Street site and relocated to their newly built factory at Harrow Road, College Park in 1884. The Ladd business continued to trade until selling out in 1957.
