By January of 1902, Henry Marsh and William Essex formed the Imperial Preserving Company who operated firstly from Winwood St, then Holland St, Southwark, SA. During the early 1920s the company used the Imperial, Austral and Royal trade marks. Jar is dated c1940.

The Central Provision Store chain was formed in 1921 by produce merchant Roger Rogerson. By 1953 CPS traded from over 34 stores selling general provisions. On the death of the companies founder, the profits earned were donated to the Adelaide Children's Hospital. Jar is dated late 1940s.
