Adelaide in 1896 looking north-east.

South Australia was saved from an economic depression in the 1840s with the discovery of copper at several localities. A mine at Kapunda contained the richest concentration of copper in the world during the 1850s. Some of Adelaide's finest Public Buildings were donated by wealthy mine owners.
Top left corner of photograph, note the domed roof of the Adelaide Exhibition Building, which was built in the mid 1880s to host the Jubilee International Exhibition of 1887.
