Digital Tach Page
From the introduction of the Light Emitting Diodes (LED) I have had a continuous interest and attraction to their use and visual effects.

This picture was taken while trying to select the brigthest LED's for the digital tach.
This page contains pictures of the digital tachometer that I have been building from scratch for my son's 1999 Ford F150 XL pickup truck.  The Idea of building a tach started about 1998 for an old 1979 F150 that my son and I were going to rebuild.  Many things changed and he now has the newer F150 but it didn't come with a tachometer.
The tachometer is built using a Microchip PIC16C715 processor for the brains, a Maxium MAX7219 LED display driver, and  two Micrel MIC4574 voltage regulators.  The tach consist of three boards that fit into an AutoMeter 2-5/8" gauge pod that mounts to the window a-pillar.
The middle board contains the display driver, microprocessor and op-amp.  It also is home to a LM34CZ temperature sensor for internal temperature readout.
