| This is the beginning of a norse style saex. It is my first ever attempt at forge work. A friend of mine has a propane forge and belt sander so with some guidance, this is what I've come up with so far. The blade is about 5 inches in length. Obvious flaws include hammering too deeply into the steel while shaping, which is likely going to leave me with some pitting in the blade. Additionally, at this point, I haven't sanded it down evenly along the face. It will be heat tempered when finished and I plan to do an antler grip for it. It may not end up being the prettiest blade when it is done, but I am pleased that it appears it will turn into a serviceable knife. |
