"DARMASISWA" SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM ACADEMIC YEAR 2003- 2004
Introduction
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia through
the Department of National Education is offering "Darmasiswa"
scholarships to foreign nationals from countries which Indonesia
has friendly relations, including Canada, to study Indonesian languages
arts, music and crafts in universities and colleges in Indonesia,
for the academic year of 2003/2004.
Countries to be offered this program are: Argentine,
Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Colombia,
Czech, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece,
Holland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand,
Norway, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Poland, Portugal,
Russia, Singapore, Slovac, South Africa, Spain, Suriname, Sweden,
Switzerland, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Uzbeksitan, Vietnam,
Yugoslavia.

Stipend
Participants of Darmasiswa Program are entitled
to a monthly allowance of Rp.350,000.00 and an annual clothing allowance
of Rp.75,000.00.
Travel arrangements
The participants are responsible for their own
travel arrangements to and from Indonesia. The Indonesian government
is not responsible for any expenses incurred as a result of this
arrangement.
Qualifications
- Must not be older than 35 years
- Have completed secondary education or its equivalent
- Have a basic knowledge of the field applied for
- Be in good health as attested by a physician’s certificate
Application procedures
Applicants must fill in the application
forms provided by the Department of National Education with
:
- 3 (three) copies of the application forms
- 5 (five) 3cm x 4 cm-size photographs
- A copy of applicant’s passport valid for at least two
(2) years
Applicants who have submitted the complete application
forms will be reviewed for selection as candidates for the Darmasiswa
program.
Applications which have successfully passed the
selection process are then sent by the Indonesian missions for approval
and processing to the following offices in Indonesia:

Deadline for applications: The completed application
forms must be submitted to the Consulate General no later
than January 20, 2003. Results of all applications will
be released in June 2003.
Visa Requirements
Participants will be issued a social-visit visa
valid for two months by this office. This visa will be converted
to a temporary resident visa valid for one year upon arrival in
Indonesia through the offices of the State Secretariat and the Department
of Foreign Affairs. Participants are not allowed to use tourist
visa as this will give rise to difficulties later in obtaining their
resident permits.
Duration of Study
The Darmasiswa Program is a non-degree program
undertaken in one year, and cannot be used to carry out research
in Indonesia.
Academic Schedule
Admission for this scholarship is for the academic
year of 2002-2003 which starts beginning of September, except for
UI (University of Indonesia) which starts mid-August 2003. Participants
are required to participate in the Indonesian language orientation
course scheduled the last week of August 2003.
Accomodation
The Bureau for International Cooperation and the
University/College will not provide any lodging or board to any
participant of the DARMASISWA Program. The Participant may rent
a house/room in accordance with his/her preference and financial
capacity. The Bureau may however, provide assistance to the participant
in looking for a suitable boarding house/accomodation.
Others
The Darmasiswa Program does not provide an insurance
policy, therefore the participants are advised to avail themselves
of an international insurance policy.
All successful applicants are then requested to arrive in
Jakarta by mid-August 2003.
