General Motors recently announced that it will remove standard safety equipment from many models sold in America. Anti-lock brakes, and side airbags will now become expensive options on models although they were standard equipment just yesterday. The benefits of ABS braking systems are unarguable. Then again, removing ABS reportedly saves GM $110 per car - money the company says will be used to install additional consumer 'value' items instead (cheap CD players, plastic cupholders, etc.) while delivering additional cash to the corporate bean counters. The good news in all this is that buyers of GM cars will still be able to specify ABS. The bad news is, at $300 and up, the once-standard safety device now comes with 200 ~ 300% profit built in, which is a rip-off. Wake up GM! Are you going to make us drive in a four-wheeled coffin to hell? Are our lives worth a measly $110 while you abscond with the juicy profits on your holiday in the Bahamas? Well up yours! Let's all do something about this and not bend over and take it up the arse and buy Chevrolet deathtrap mobiles! Most of their cars are crap anyway... |
