SMV 2004 Saint -Marc VisionWhat we are aboutSMV 2004 is a non profit organization whose fundamental purpose is to aid the Haitian community by improving health care, education ,sanitation, nutrition, agriculture and other cultural issues that benefit the people of Haiti. OUR MISSION We are at the forefront of the 200th year anniversary of Haiti's Independance ,on January 1st 2004,yet Haiti still faces many hardships. In spite of our name ,we do not plan to stop at Saint-Marc.This organization's purpose is to try to better all of Haiti ,city by city .Saint-Marc is just the beginning. Our main goal is to aid in resolving many issues Saint -Marc faces such as: * DeforestationThis one of the biggest problemthat Saint Marc faces .The increasing destruction of trees leads to the loss of fertile soil and the depletion of many necessary water resources. Our plans are to start a campaign for resforation,by planting new trees and encouraging others to do so as well ,so we can regerate our forests *Sanitation Saint-Marc lacks an efficient waste removal system .Therefore garbage contaminates water supplies, which leads to sickness and disease. We plan to attack this problem by removing all the garbage from the river streets ,and sidewalks of Saint-Marc with the help of the local government and the people of the community . *Infrastructure- The lack of Maintenance ,as well as unpaved roads dauses danger when traveling in Saint Marc. WE will help by paving the major roads by 2004. *Education Saint-Marc has an increasingly low literacy rate .In addition technological advances are not incorporated in the curriculum, which decreases competitiveness between Haiti and the rest of the world. We plan to focus on this in the future by creating an educational center ,with labs, computer and a library. In addition ,this organization wants to make other aware of those issues and encourage Haitians and citizens everywhere to participate in the enrichment of our beloved country. Regardless of all of the hardships Haiti faces, we as a people have a great sense of pride in our country, and therefore we are also focused on celebrating, acknowledging, and honoring Haiti's 200th year anniversary of Independence. This celebration will include lively parades, entertaining concerts, exciting sporting events, intellectual debates and motivational speeches. We also plan to start the restoration of La Place Phillipe Guerrier in order to prepare for the festivities on January 1st 2004. For that reason we want to get everyone involved in making our vision come to pass. WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU In 1803 a small group of slaves united on a mission to gain their independence from the French. To attain their freedom, they had to face the largest army, led by Napoleon. So through their efforts Haiti became the world's first Black country to gain its Independence. Today in 2002 we now face another enemy, but this enemy is not a foreign power and our problem is not oppression, it is the many tribulations Haiti faces everyday. But just as the slaves in the 18th century came together to defeat the French, we too, can unite to solve Haiti's problems, and make Haiti a place that our ancestors who fought for it many years could be proud of. We all know that Haitians are capable of coming together despite all odds and regardless of all doubt. Just 12 years ago, on April 20th 1990. the Haitian community in the United States, was outraged by the accusations that the AIDS epidemic originated in Haiti. In response, Haitians organized the largest immigrant protest in U.S. history. In doing so the stigma was removed from our name. Once again, let's make history! Let's be the first nation to rebuild our beloved country. In our mission to unite and attack these issues we have founded the TEN THOUSAND CLUB and we need your participation. Join us in the Ten Thousand Club and be a part of aiding us in accomplishing our noble vision. HOW TO JOIN The Ten Thousand is a membership in SMV 2004 with a fee of $10.00 a month.
