Dead LARPs

One of my distractions from grad school is White Wolf's Mind's Eye Theatre live-action roleplaying game system. I play in one or two LARPs year-round, but something about the summer makes me feel like assuming (quite briefly) the role of Storyteller, starting back in the summer of 1997 with a one-shot Sabbat game played on the campus of Boston University; two rival packs of neonate shovelheads vied (unsuccessfully) to bring down a small coterie of Cammie ancillae in what was essentially a large (too large) hide-and-seek game. I first set up this site to serve as online HQ for a Shining Host game the following summer, and have since used it for two other games:

  • Summer 1998: "Homeless Fae" chronicle -- three sessions of a Changeling game set in Boston. Links from these pages may be decaying horribly. Many house rules and conversions from tabletop, plus background information, can be found here, but much of this was made obsolete by the materials posted for the Midsummer 2000 game below. The Kithain of Boston had to deal with an insane Duke and the impending arrival of a mighty Dragon, not to mention each other...
  • Summer 1999: Dead Man's Party one-shot -- a play-anything World of Darkness murder mystery set in the late eighties. In addition to the setting, since any kind of creature from the WoD could come to the party, I wrote several LARP crossover rules, most of which covered situations that never came up. A Banana-Republic-clad Gangrel nature photographer, an unlikely pair of lawyers, the World of Darkness's versions of Bill, Opus, and Steve Dallas, a fomor dressed vaguely like Ducky from "Pretty in Pink," and many other diverse beings assembled uneasily for a birthday party thrown by a Ventrue they did not know -- and never actually got to meet.
  • June 17, 2000: Midsummer 2000 one-shot -- a sequel to the 1998 game. Though the one-shot is over, I consider this my "current" LARP site, and will update it occasionally with setting background information and rule conversions and clarifications, preparing for the day when there is yet another sequel... and there will be.
  • New for December 2001: The beginnings of a gallery of old characters I have played. Rejoice therefore.

If you're particularly bored and need further evidence that I'm a geek, you can read my old Changeling LARP rules used by Boston University's Van Helsing Society the year before White Wolf's official rules came out, available for downloading in archaic Microsoft Word 2.0 format, 110K (16 pp.). I might someday put them into HTML, but what would be the point? Some snippets from this did, however, get used on my other Changeling pages.
