| bio: midriff combines like lots and lots of (somewhat seemingly mismatched) styles and somehow ends up with something this pretty and awesome. check out their new EP, BiMonocle Man. it's pretty sexy. first off, Logen is a very sexy man. his hair may no longer be so long, but the sexy's still going strong. (you know it's true because it rhymes.) actually, his hair is getting kinda long again... sweet. midriff is a band of nice young boys spawned at the turn of the year two-thousand and three, following the end of the band of guided by fire, which comprised of three midriff-ites (logen, evan, and mike) and chris moulton. DFA was started up at about the same time, and i remember there being a slight rivalry between us, as we were the only two bands in the high school we knew of and chris' band with the midriff boys had recently broken up. i think we were also a little intimidated, because chris was the only one in DFA who had ever been in a band before. although i had become pretty good friends with logen, i didn't know the rest of the band then, and it was a little strange until we played shows with them. i don't think i really liked midriff at first, but then i bet they were a lot worse right when they started out, just as we were, sloppy and not quite sure about their sound. i remember watching them for the second time at the big scarborough show i set up at the dfa practice house (thanks to my mom for saving us by letting us have it there when the original venue bailed out the day of the show). it was at that show i decided i was definately a midriff fan. they opened with the song "what reader's want" (now on their new EP and their pre-EP demo), and i fell in love with that song right there. logen and aaron's guitar blend so well in that song. damn. i recently saw midriff again, last october (2003), and i must say, they've gotten better. i'm glad to be friends with those boys and to have them on the label, and i'm excited to be helping out releasing their shit. releases: 1. BiMonocle Man 5-song EP (OS!#4). |
