| Andrew F. Poor became the Director of band at Osborne High School in June of 1999. Prior to this appointment, he served in a similar capacity at Hanies City High School in Hanies City, Florida, where he also served as Department Manager for the Fine and Performing Arts and Co-Chair of the Polk County Curriculum Committee. Dr. Poor completed his Bachelor of Music Education degree at the University of Florida in 1988, graduating with High Honors. After teaching middle school music for three years, he furthered his studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he completed a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance in 1993 and the Doctor of Music Education degree in 1999. Ensembles under his direction have consistently received Superior ratings and numerous best in class awards at the state and district level in all areas of performance, including Straight Superiors for the Osborne High School Symphonic Band this past Spring. Some of the more notable performances by ensembles under his direction include the Florida Music Educators State Conference and the Bands of America Regional Concert Band Festival. In addition, Dr. Poor has held teaching positions at all educational levels and was recognized in both the 1998 and 2000 editions of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Dr. Poor has performed professionally with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Wind Symphony, Walt Disney World Band, and the Richomd Symphony, and has successfully competed as a trumpet soloist in numerous regional and national competitions. In additoin, he has a passion for new music and has been involved in a commissioning project that has produced three significant works for band as well as writing numerous compositions himself, with three new premieres of his works in the spring of 2001. The University of Cincinnati Brass Choir premiered one of his more recent works, Declaration for Brass Choir, in April 2001, and the Smitha Middle School Band recently premiered To Challenge the Spartans on May 14, 2001. Moreover, he currently is serving as the Brass Captain Head for Drum Corps International, and has also worked as an adjucator for Drum Corps Midwest, Bands of America, and Winter Guard International. He has also served as clinician and consultant in the areas of curriculum development, music adjudication, student leadership, middle school music education, show design, and brass pedagogy. |
