PEEDS OF PERSON COUNTY, NC
Data Collected by Stella Peed Gentry

1800 Person County, NC showed no Peed listed. No Peeds were listed in NC census either

Person County land records show that Richard and Andrew Peed bought land in Person County in 1803. It is believed that this Andrew and Richard were the sons of Lewis Peed of Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, VA.

The legend is that three brothers came to North Carolina from Virginia. But in looking at birth records of Kingston Parish it appears that the third man George was a cousin who was the son of George and Elizabeth Peed. Most likely a 1st cousin. Andrew, Richard and George Peed were listed as heads of households in Person County, NC census for 1810. They were listed with females and each was 45 years or older.

Some of the descendants of George have remained in the same community in Person County NC since their arrival in 1802. Many of the descendants went to Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee in the mid 1800s. Others moved to adjoining counties and to the eastern part of NC.

Andrew died in 1811 or 1812, Inventory of his estate was on 15 February, 1812.

1810 Person Co. NC census listed 3 Peed households, they are listed by male, female and age range.

On the 1820 census these households joined except Bennett Williams, Jun. There was one household listed between them. Bennett Williams Sr. was listed nearby. Jesse's household was next to George, David's household was next to Jesse and the next household was Thomas Peed. A Thomas Peed was listed as head of a household in Randolph County. Thomas bought land in 1814.

There were several Peed males who were of age to witness deeds or were married during the years 1803-1821. Some of the names were John, Thomas, Jesse, David, Leroy and William.

The following records are from Person and Granville County, NC marriage records:

From same record as above on page 117. The tax list for 1823 listed in Captain Sweeney's Company a Thomas Peed 0-1, David Peed 0-1, Jess Peed 0-1.
