A middle aged man named Toby wraps his hands around a microphone and bows his head to pray. He tucks his gold cross necklace into his turtleneck black sweater, brushes any dirt off his dark boot cut Levis, and runs his hands through his long black hair then puts it into a low pony tail. He spends a lot of time caring for his appearance. Kids judge so much by clothes, if he is to reach them he must look like their idea of cool. He takes a final look in the mirror and smiles. He loves kids and its always been his dream to help them. He is speaking in a public school today but he hopes to direst the kids to the lord somehow. In public schools, he calls God "truth".
The principal of the school comes onto the stage and says, Hello and welcome! Please, everyone, lets give a warm welcome to Mr. Toby Peters! He starts clapping in a tiny polite clap that reminded Toby of golfing tournaments.
Toby runs out onto the stage with a huge smile on his face.
Hello he yells and a few kids mumble a return hello.
Is that all the noise you can make? he yells, Now I said heeeelloooo!!! This time he receives a much louder reply for more kinds.
Thats more like it! He puts one of his feet up on the speak. I am Toby and I am here to talk to you all and try to help you lovely children find truth. Most of the children seemed happy to be out of class and listened to him. He always started with some jokes.
You ever notice how when a girl drops her books in the hall all her friends see her and they love her so they all run to help her pick up her stuff. Then a guy will drop his books and his friends will see him and they love him so theyll run to his and kick his books across the hall. The kids laugh. Toby sees two boys in the back who dont like him. One is staring off blankly as his deep in thought and the other has a large smirk. Toby prays that they will one day find the lord.
In each of Tobys audiences there in always a challenge, and this time it was the boy staring of with a mohawk combed over an eye and his arms crossed over a band shirt. Toby knows that if they could make eye contact, they would connect and the boy would understand what Toby was saying.
Drugs and alcohol and pre-marital sex are all things that will blind you from the truth. Toby says to the kids, we spend our entire lives trying to find truth and there are many ways to find it. You can go to your parents, you can go to a teacher and you can even go to church to find truth. Even homosexuals cab find truth. He stared at the boy the entire time he spoke and though the boy would look at the speaker from time to time he would never look at Tobys face. As he left the stage, Toby prayed again that the boy would one day find God.
